So, there I am in bed, and for the second night running, Rygel is in the other room meowing.
Now, last night it was at 1:30! But, tonight it was right after we turned out the lights.
The roomie went to see what was wrong, but didn't see anything.
So, we turned out the lights, and the lights hadn't been off a minute and Ryg was doing it again!
So, I get up and look at what he is doing.
Well, Sunday, the roomie got some catnip mice and balls for the cats.
There was Rygel playing with a mouse. He chased it over by my feet, picked it up and went back to the middle of the room, meowing all the way.
He puts it down and chases it again, and picks it up and starts meowing - AGAIN!
"Well," I told the roomie, "I know WHY Rygel is meowing."
"Why?" she asked from her bedroom.
"He's chasing a mouse."
"Oh, and talking to it," she said.
"Yeah, good thing it isn't a real mouse!"
"Really," she agreed. "Hey, there's a discussion for you."
So, here I am, posting about it.
Do you have a crazy cat like mine?

As distracting as that had to be, ElicBxn, you should count yourself lucky. At least he wasn't doing the old "*scritch scritch scritch* Meow. *scritch scritch scritch* Meow." on the door, trying to get in with you. I had a cat who would scratch non-stop at the door, meowing imperiously the entire time. And when she wasn't doing that, she'd jump at the door knob to try to open it. Thank goodness they were regular knobs, and not the lever kind, or I'd never have had any privacy.

I didn't mind the cats in bed, but it was impossible to do homework with them in the room, so I'd always have to close the door on them then. Otherwise, I'd have cats parked on my books, my papers, chewing on everything. I have actually turned in homework that was obviously chewed on by cats.

LOL...Our Samul kitty actually brought in a real mouse as a houseguest into our apartment and the two of them would play tag in the kitchen! I finally had to get some D-Con to get rid of the thing because Samul just thought it was his friend! I scolded Samul and told him he wasn't doing his job! "You're supposed to kill them, not play with them!"

LOL...I remember when we were staying with my sister, her Akita cornered a mouse once and one bite and that little thing deflated like a balloon! Good dog! Samul could have learned a thing or two from him!

Interesting... A Cat meowing at a Catnip mouse. Could be the catnip as some Cats I have heard start acting strange around catnip. But at least you now know what the meowing is about and at least if it is not loud enough to keep you up at night sounds like your Cat is having some Fun and enjoying his mouse.

No inside cats here but my dog Cookie will sit by the gas fireplace and whine, thinking, or more likely hoping, there is another bird that got in.
Cats are so funny when they play with catnip!

Before the roomie moved in, she lived in a house that was just full of holes, and her former roommate was - well, hoarder comes closest to describing her.
Anyway, her cats at the time would sit and wait for the mice to come in, they knew all the favorite holes and often the mouse didn't get more than in the house before they were attacked.

My cats used to lovecatnip! They would get it in their stockings every year. If it was in a toy, they would tear it apart to get it out. They would roll in it and cry. Even the least dominant one would get bolder if she got a little "drunk' from the catnip. I had one cat that didn't seem to like catnip. He was the only one I ever saw that wasn't affected by it.

Cats are creature of the night. I have two cats, one of which will find any small object to play with. Her favorite is the plastic Easter eggs. She frequently throws them down the stairs. It has taken a while, but I have managed to get her to be a little quieter. one thing that I do is not have the house completely dark. Sometimes the cats talk because they are having trouble seeing and are using sound to find things. Eventually you and your roommate will sleep through all of the play.

Oh, he was playing in the kitchen, where we leave the light on over the range - so we don't step on cats if we have to get up during the night (or step on other things)
He kicked it into a space he couldn't get to it and I left it there!

It is lots of fun to watch a cat that has enjoyed some catnip. They really go kind of crazy, but in a fun way. It is kind of nice to see your cat having a good time. Other good news, I have never seen a hangover, and no evidence it is addicting.

Come to think of it...Banjo will let the mouse go then nonchalantly look elsewhere...if the mouse is still there when he surreptitiously glances back at it he will give it a gentle nudge, or hefty swat, to make the mouse get a move on...then he catches it yet again, and eats it.

LOL I sure do!! My siamese kitten PG (Pretty Girl) does that! She'll get to playing with one of her toy mice and she'll start meowing at it and I'll wonder what's wrong and call her and she'll come flying to me. You see, siamese cats hate to be alone and will call out to their owners to see where they are and that's what I thought at first but it's not that. It's her playing with her toy mice. So now I have to learn the difference in the way she meows so I'll know whether she's looking for me or playing with her mice.

Not nearly so crazy. It was much easier to figure out what Sleepy thought about that cat carrier. He had to go to the vet for his annual exam and shots. I wondered why he was being silent, as he usually complains the whole way. When we got there, I found that he had pooped in the carrier and also thrown up. He must have been thinking, "That'll show you what I think about this business of going to the vet."

yeah, we had one cat that screamed all the way to the vet and then was nearly silent on the way home... I guess he was afraid we'd leave him (or was it a her?) and when we didn't he stayed quiet. He was very glad when we opened the door and let him out!

ive had many crazy cats and many that kept the mice caught. ive had a couple peoples even borrowed to rid their place of mice and/or rats. but then, they would not ever work on catching them in others homes? ever heard of that? anyway, perhaps you have mice and when the lights go out Rygel tries playing with/ and killing them.

I have a kitten that is about 8-9 months and there are times when she is outright crazy. I have to put her outside to cool off. lol
She likes to carry things in her mouth like a dog. She will pick things up and carry them up and down the stairs.
I have always had a cat, but have never seen one carry things to the extent that this cat does.

She woke me up this morning, insisting that she just had to go out, and then when I got up and opened the door, refused to go out... now I have a pain in my right lower sinus...
For some reason, she's not using her litter box this winter.
