Hi AKP,
How can I miss dropping on your discussions as long as I am here...
Well, there are many things that you would come across in life where you would have almost Zero Knowledge and then you would seek out for knowledge... Maybe from peers, family members or when all fail... the Internet.
I know that we cannot be masters of all trades and also being a jack of all trade is not possible just because the content and scope of knowledge is always beyond our capacities... still be open to learning as this really helps many a times....

Hiya akp,
Once they stuck me in the Telex Room of where I was working to take over another GirlĀ“s Job. I told them I can type but not as fast as she can. Well they did not listen so I tried to do my best. On a Telex type machine your typing had to be very exact and you could not go back and correct any mistakes.
Well I did hold the Fort but told them it was not my strong point. The Telephone Switchboard was where I was happiest.
They also put me in Reception of a Job which was also temporary and I had to put up with really bad mouthed salesmen and put up with a Telephone Engineer trying to fix a line right under my feet (grin).
I did handle that one much better though and the Salesmen stopped being so bad mouthed too. That was because I listened to them and then I explained what the problem was so they took it much easier and relaxed.
I have been in a few more situations like that but I am not going to write them all here
You did very well too considering and not knowing anything at all about the Shop. I think I might have hidden underneath the Counter not my kind of Job that one but in the end I would come out again and try.

Yes, the job I have now. I had just started and only been there for a couple of days when my boss decided she needed a night off. It is a convenience store and prior to that I had no experience at all with running the register, handling customers, dealing with the gas pumps, running the deli etc etc. She just told me she knew I would figure it all out as she ran out the door. What a long night it was but I did figure things out and nothing major went wrong. When you have to you just kind of do.

Well, I have never been thrown into a job like that... I would be pretty nervous. But it's exciting that you could handle the situation given that you had no knowledge or experience in the field. That shows a lot of potential in you..to improvise! Not everyone could do that, I probably couldn't. Sometimes at work I will deal with a situation that I've never had before..And I'll have to be creative to figure out a solution (such as with a customer complaint/problem/etc). It's not always successful but eventually in the end I learn about the *right* way to handle these kinds of situations for future reference.

I try to avoid such situations at all costs! I am very, very uncomfortable in those situations. But I have still been put in that position a couple of times and was able to make it through just by using as much common sense as I could and my ability to operate from being able to figure things out on the fly, so to speak.
But if your friend though you did well, then that's all that counts!

There are so many things in life that are learning lessons. I am one that enjoys challenges, as I like to look at things from the phrase "my glass is half full".
If I was put in your situation and I had no knowledge of selling clothes, I would have such a great time with it, as I would pull forward all my astute ways of mingling with customers to make sure that at least my customer service skills were highly acceptable.
I was asked once to fill in for 30 minutes at the box office at our theater, not having any experience. I winged it through. I made the patrons so comfortable that it made for a great experience.

When you have no time and no time to ask,you can just do as you thought and by your feeling, maybe you can look for someone who good at it for help.
If you have enough time, then you can search on the Internet or go to the library to find some books about this field, also you can look for someone else for help.Sometimes you can just look and do as they do,that is easy
