Citizen Kane is largely regarded as one of, if not the best film ever made. They base it on the qualities it has and the time in which it was released. They consider it great because of how ahead of its time it was.

I would say STAR WARS 5 ... maybe MATRIX RELOADED will end up being better in all-time, but STAR WARS 5 has it beat so-far.

I think the best movie depends on the person watching it. Someone who has different values and interests might think totally opposite to one who enjoys adventure or sci fi. We are all looking for something different. I think that Star Wars is one of the most popular of all time. Others have been ET, Grease etc. For me, and perhaps a rather unknown movie, or not as popular is What Dreams May Come. To me that is the best movie of all time.

I agree; What Dreams May Come (Robin Williams, Max Von Sydow, --Junior (that 'Show Me the Money!'-guy with Tom Cruise)) is probably absolutely truer, but STAR WARS (especially THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK) I guess shows a more-ideal truth.
What Dreams May Come leads one to believe that we each hold the entire universe in our minds; STAR WARS, to believe that we each hold an important piece of the universe in our minds, that we have to have faith that all the other piece-holders will use theirs when the time is right.

I love Avatar and can't wait for the sequel. I have watched it at least a dozen times and never get tired of it. I also love "The last of the Mohicans". I think that was a really good movie.

There's no such thing as the best movie in the world. "Best" is a matter of opinion, and everybody has a different opinion. A movie that you think is best, I might think is one of the worst. Everybody has different tastes. I've seen lots of lists that are supposed to be the best ten or the best 100, and none of them agree on the one best. They can't even agree most of the top 100. Whose decision would it be? How would someone decide what's the best?
