If you are a teacher in a school, which of the two methods would you follow as a teacher; ‘Spare the rod and spoil the children’ or ‘Spare the rod and inspire the children’.

certainly the second method, everyone may make mistakes, but the point is correct them but not punish them.if a a child has been punished frequently,he'll fear to express his thought and are unable to create new things!we'd better encourage them, though it's easier to say than take action.anyway, have a good day!

Yeah, I totally agree with you. Kids need to be encouraged and not punished frequently, otherwise, they will be afraid to do anything, and cannot focus in your class. encouragement and inspiration work better to keep the children's interest in learning.

Hello Dear DoctorDidi! I am a Veterinarian working on a Stud Farm in the capacity of Chief Resident Vet.We breed and look after the horses meant for Racing purpose. Though I have chosen this profession by choice I always had an urge to teach, as I am really good at teaching a i was a bad student during my schooling. I know what exactly makes a school student a bad one. what are the typical problems a school kid can face! So knowing these things it becomes easier for me to understand the problem of these students and help them out.
I used to conduct private tuitions for the tenth and twelfth class class students when I was in my Veterinary college, which not only used to make me self sufficient monetarily but also used to give me a big satisfaction of contributing some thing in some one's life. Believe me so called as duffers or duds in their respective classes one day are today placed at a nice position in society.I know few of them who are having Doctor. officer and Engineer as their respective profession.I always get their greetings without fail every year!
During my teaching I never used to punish any student for not studying, which includes my only son too! I try to understand the problem where thy are getting struck and what is making them the subject boring one! Most of the times I found that it is the basics thy don't have which makes them hard to understand the subject further. It is like building a big building on a weak foundation.
So what I used to do is for a month or so I used to take a complete refresher course for these students where I used to teach them all the basics in every subject and it was really unbelievable to see the changes in these students after one month, One could see over all change in their personality right from the confidence, general behaviour, obedience, honesty every thing. These students used to be a changed personalities. Here I never used a rod or cane to mend them. All I used was a practical approach and some patience along with some affection which I believe every child is rightful to have from their teachers.
Thus in my opinion it is the second option that works better to the first one to make a good teacher! Thanks for the topic of discussion! I liked to respond it! Thanks !

You are no doubt doing a great job as you have utilized your own experiences as a student.

The method of spare the rod is of the old passion and is out of date and is no longer encouraged in teaching. In some countries, it is illegal and punishable by authorities if teachers use it. The 'inspire the children one is now a acceptable teaching prinicple and is used in all text books for teachers to learn to do. Inspire children to explore their unlimited potentials and develop them to be useful people. I like the latter one, and all teacher of modern era will too.

of course,i would choose the end method as the role of teaching.
with the development of our society, teaching skills should also be advanced and innovated.
with time change, children are knowing more than before, and they grow more quickly.
it is a challenge for all the teachers to become rich in knowledge and skillful in teaching methods.
I believe the teachers would only earn respects with inspiring things to their children.

The latter of course! I think the former is archiac at best. Laying a hand on a child with anything but love is wrong. I don't condone it and I don't agree with any arguments of people who do agree with such actions. You get through to a child with love and trust, not the rod!

Why do I choose the first method? Even If I'm not an excellent teacher and I can't inspire our children, I also won't spoil them!
Teacher is a person whom make a person, so we must have love with our works.

It is an old practice to spare the rod and spoil the child. Most often what this produces are rebellious kids which defeats your objective as a teacher. A student shamed in class would stop listening to the teacher. Understanding the child and starting where they are would be a better practice.
Have a nice day doctordidi.
