Something Is Wrong In Mylot Land

You log on to Mylot, you click on your star rating and much to your surprise you see your rating has dropped "overnight", what?! yes, lterally "overnight" you could have sworn your rating was 1 or 2 points higher the day before and wonder how is this possible? i can well understand that over a certain amount of time your rating can and does flucuate, depending on who's reading and rating your discussions at any given time, but the very next day? how could this be? and not only that, what if you haven't started any discussions between the time your rating was higher and then noticed the drop? plus you also know you haven't responded to anyone rudely or given anyone a reason to rate you negatively and even if you did your rating would certainly not plummet in a matter of 12 hours or less.
I really would appreciate your opinion on this and possibly an explanation as to how and why this occurs.

Several Lotters are seeing their star decrease recently
You are now 85 and as red starts at 85.51 there is a good chance that you will soon get it back. It takes less plusses to move yours back up because you have a lower number beside your bname. Those of us with a larger number need pushing a lot more to budge it
Hang on in there and I'm sure that many will see that you are not the colour that you should be and will get it back

I hope too that soon myLot will put an end to this once and for all.
It is exasperating and distracts from what myLot should be about - fun!
Thank you and thank you for the friend request

Hello jujunme,
Members can still rate your responses or discussions years after, and it affects your rating/ranking, updated once a day. More the number besides your name will be high and less you will see a variation on your points. It is why old users are generally stuck with a star which is not really representative of the actual quality of their discussions and responses : have not you find some members posting high quality content and ask yourself "why are not they in blue (star) ?"

"have not you find some members posting high quality content and ask yourself why are not they in blue(star)?"
Yes,i have and in cases like this i feel it's pure jealousy and spite. Why would anyone want to rate a high qualty discussion negatively? besides being jealous of the amount of responses it receives and the high ratng someone may of had. how sad that people like this are allowed to judge the quality of "any" discussion, since all they know how to do is rate it negatively for their own unjust purposes.

hi jujunme dr mario is right and a bit wrong too as if you drop a lot over night it can be trolls. when I was new here I made some two idiot moron smokers angry as I maintained smoking was injurious to your health so I had a blue star a ten and overnight these two moronic trolls minused me down to a five. I was angry and I contacted mylot admins. they put a watch on my postings and then they notified me that they caught two men who spent all night minusing me down to a 5 from a 10 and put my star up but only to an 8 and I managed to get to 9 by myself. but if you have the same star and only dropped two points that could be normal fluctuation.one or two points is really normal but if you lose say a hird or your blue star turne white it means you need to report it to admins at once.

Hi Hatley.Yes my rating dropped 2 points overnight, but what i still don't understand is, why any flucuation at all?, especially since my rating hasn't changed much at all till now. Wouldn't it still mean i was rated negatively by anyone trying to be spiteful? Maybe i'm a little too sensitive, but i take that personally and feel it's someone who reads my discussions often and for whatever reason, (i try to post quality discussions and am not rude or insulting to anyone)they may have for rating me negatively,it irks me no end, since "anyone" starting or responding to a discussion is somehow under the control of "trolls"

Hello jujunme,
I really don't understand why some people neg others because they don't agree with them. Maybe they don't understand how the rating system works here and how it is related with our earnings. I feel i don't have any business here playing with other's earnings so i never neg them. Trolls are different, they just stalk and neg you for whatever reason they like, but i guess they like doing that.
Cheers, i am a free distributor of '+' just come near me and you will be plussed! He he..

I don't understand it either. Though i would say it's a mixture of things, some members say it's for no other reason then disagreeing with your opinion, some say it's spite or jealousy (you have a higher rating then they do)and they don't like it.and in my opinion i agree with all of it.since these are the trolls and i also agree, they just "like doing it" and could care less about our rating or earnings.Anyway, cheers to you as well and a '+' to go along with it.

Yes, i know it was "red" when i "started" this discussion, can you believe it? I have no other choice than to believe i'm being negged for no reason i guess the "troll" didn't like this discussion either, but, as you mentioned "so much for them".Anyway thanks so much for saying you will '+' my discussions, i really apprecaite this and i will do the same for you. Afterall we can do the same thing with the rating icon, only in the right way and for the right reasons.

jujume,
I do know what you are saying and it is inevitable. I go from 10 to 9 overnight daily. At first I was very sad and disappointed because I concentrate on helping and having fun. I could not understand how I could drop, and rise so often. I am not out of the woods yet, as some days I believe the intentional neg raters rest then come back to intentionally neg me.
All we can do is, is continue entering quality, making friends, sharing wisdom, and having fum. It's either that or leave myLot in total.
While I will not allow whom ever is doing this to drive me away, all we can do is sure be sad, get strong and get even, by continue what we do best.
Enjoying myLot and not allowing the mean ones get the best of me. This happens drastically because as one negative, or two can drop us instantly, then you have the others who are not rating us positive either.
We are allowed 11 or 15 plus rates per member per day. So anytime I see absolutely anything that I find as a wonderful response I give it a positive, even if I am not on the discussion. I have also plus an opposing opinion as it has made me re-think certain aspects of the discussion.
I will (+) you jujunme, and make it a point to be attentive, after all we are friends.

LOL topffer, I often think that when I see some drop really low, my first thought is well lay off the neg button and maybe you would not be affected.
Right you are about the neg button rule as it is in the guidelines that over abuse will definitely decrease the members own star.

Oh and plus for you as this important to mention to anyone that experiences drops so they are aware that it is not a personal thing but at times members go out their way to drop a members ratings.

Hi jujunme!..very sorry to know that. I have also experienced the overnight changes but for me it was not bad as you. My rating changed from 4 to 6 overnight. I was so happy to see that. I actually didn't understand how we get rated that time but after that I figured out the reason (probably) by checking back my posts. I was rated as best response that day and I think it helped me to get positive rating from the users who go through my posts...anyway I can't come here everyday. I'm here for about 6 months but when I log back I see rating change and till now it was all good. and when I post regularly I get regular rating change. Like I'm here for 2 days..when I log back 2 days ago my rating was 65..yesterday it gone up to 67 and today its showing 70...1st day I replied only 3 discussions...didn't stared any new...yesterday I answered again 3 and started 1 and it got 6 responses...so actually I didn't do much ...so I can't figure out what makes the rating up/low..
But I'm happy by getting regular flow...I don't know what's gonna happen next..but I always hope for the best and for you, wishing you all the very best...

Thank you so much for your kind words i really appreciate it and i'm glad to know your rating has gone up.keep up the good work. for me, actually this was the first time my rating dropped since it was a 9 for the longest time,so , i have no idea why the sudden drop, since i feel my discussions do get good responses and no one has replied to any of them in a negative way, plus, i try my best not to be rude or insulting to anyone and will treat them with respect.but, if you read my reply to you right above this one, it just may explain why i feel certain people do what they do and the sad part is, there's really little we can do about it.

As stated all along, it may be the intentional negging of some people( no troll word for me, it has been overly abused...) and it's really hard to guess what came over these people to just get any random victim. I hope friends will help out in restoring the numbers!
Hmm... Really don't know whether my friends judge me by my rating or my deeds LOL but this is just too much for me. All these ups and downs (not in MY ratings) and consequent comments.... I don't care anymore. If my rating drops, I'll surely get sad. But still....I don't care!
Whoa! It became a rant! Sorry.

why someone will intentionally rate negative on someones post! I actually don't get it. What's the point of doing so? wait...may be they don't get good ratings and see all others rating going up day by day. that makes them jealous..but I had a feeling that people come here to share thoughts, to share good things....at least I'm here to know new things from you, obviously that is not in negative sense..knowing something good..that I didn't know...I believe I myself only can get a tiny portion of knowledge but our combine knowledge is way better than personal knowledge. No one can be good in all aspects but when we share our knowledge, we get to know each other and have their knowledge too....I feel awesome and honored when I get a acknowledgment for my discussion/comments. It's like an achievement to me. But it doesn't mean I hate criticism. I like criticism, it encourages me to improve myself. Even when I don't get any criticism I feel like people are not reading my writings, it's just been overlooked...I feel sad.
Not only here, in every stage of my life. All people have their own perspective of thinking, it may not match with mine but it'll never lead me rate it negative when it has logic behind it...has a good fact of thinking..at least it will help me to think a while about the matter and my brain will workout well...may be I think too positively...

Most of us who come here do so for the right reasons, share our thoughts, help others, make friends and hopefully learn a lot as well.but, just as in real life there will always be those, who for reasons of their own go out of their way to make it bad for everyone else and that's what i think happens here as well. Call it jealousy, spitefulness or just people who disagree with whatever you have to say, and don't know how to respond respectfully, so they take the easy way out by rating someone negatively. But, we can't let them stop us from doing what we love to do and what the purpose of Mylot is supposed to be about.i may be upset by someone negative rating me, but i won't let that stop me from coming here.i have made quite a few really wonderful friends here and that's whatmakes coming here so worthwhile.

"Intentional negging" of some people is what bothers me the most.it's just crazy.i don't know what they hope to gain by doing this and if the rating system didn't effect peoples earnings idon't think many others would care either, they could neg all day long till their fingers fell off.but it does affect ones earnings and i've seen some members ratings drop a whole lot and that just isn't fair.
BTW no apology necessary, since your comment wasn't a "rant" at all and even if it was i could well understand why

There are actually a lot of reasons why it happened. one thing im sure of is by abusing mylot or if you created a new post and then there is already a duplicate post, then i believe admin will remove your post. I believe you should read the terms and conditions and follow rules in mylot.. happy mylotting.

in the first place, the admin has "nothing" to do with your star rating.it is the members here who rate your discussions positive or negative and therefore your rating can change at any given time. and as far as "abusing Mylot", i certainly have not done this in any way and have read and know the terms and guidelines here quite well. Maybe if you had read my discussion, your response might have been different since what you commented on here, has nothing to do with what my discussion was about.

so sorry jujunme. ive never understood any of it. as some have said, its got to be trolls. but im at a loss as to why someone would be so mean and not have anything else to do but try and make others miserable. i mean what kind of life could they have? to only enjoy such a thing? theres so much more fun things to do here and on the internet in general.

i'm with you. i don't understand it myself.Even though i'm very aware of how mean and spiteful people can be here, these people seem to have nothing better to do than hurt someone else for their own selfish reasons. They don't enjoy the things those of us who come here enjoy, (making friends, learnng about people, getting great advice)they only come here to either be rude or rate someone negatively for no reason.I hope they're proud of themselves since in my opinion they are uhappy individuals who are going nowhere.

I have the same experienced as you but mine decreased because someone misunderstood my discussion. The moment a single person rated you negative then your star would automatically decreased to one point. But to increased it your response or discussion should be chosen as the best answer, otherwise it would take a lot of positive rating to boost your star again.
In my case, i don't care much if my reputation would go down.

Just "misunderstanding" someones discussion in my opinion is no reason for voting the discussion negatively,it really bothers me that people will use any excuse to rate that way.although i'm glad you say doesn't bother you.i think the only way it will really bother me is if my earnings drop since they do depend on your rating. but so far so good.

I am sorry to hear but my rating has not moved it still says 87/100 forever. But before yeah I had different ratings and it dropped overnight when I was like 6 stars before to like 4! Just people might just negative your posts... people like to step on people or jealousy. It has happened to me & I don't know what the answer is to it but don't worry, you'll build it up :)

my rating stayed pretty much the same as well until last night when it dropped 2 points and i do agree with you that we may never know all the reasons people feel the need to rate others negatively, but jealously certainly can be oe of the reasons and if this is true, they need to be elsewhere. since theres no room for spite and jealousy here.
