New sugar cravings..How to handle!?

I recently started to try to cut down on soda and I've been pretty successful at it for the past couple of days. (Hey, I am a hardcore addict, a couple days to me is like a lifetime for some people LOL). The only thing I've noticed is that suddenly I am craving SUGAR. Constantly. And it's not that anything is wrong with me physically, that I am dizzy or anything like that.. I am just constantly craving sugary treats. It NEVER used to be this way. The only kind of junk food/munchies I used to snack on were "salty" foods rather than sugary ones. And here I am, dealing with the opposite kind of cravings that I'm used to. I can't think of any other reason these kinds of cravings might be happening.
I had a good idea in trying to control these sugar cravings with 'natural' cravings like apples and bananas - sugar that comes out of nature and so is much better for you than the refined/processed stuff - but to no avail. It hasn't been seeming to help.
So..I am asking you. For those of you who have quit drinking soda, have you ever experienced this kind of thing? How do you deal?

Dear friend,
I just drink soda very rarely, more over here in India we do rarely have such habits. May be it also depends upon each people's way of consumption. Until now not yet experienced any such sort of things in my life.

I've been through exactly what you are talking about. For me, pomegranate seeds worked really really well. As a snack its incredibly refreshing, but the sweetness it brought really satisfied my cravings, more so than other fruits. Usually I go through about half a fruit a day, and that is enough to last me, plus I feel even better knowing that one of my five-a-day is taken care of!
The other advantage is that with its refreshing flavour, it leaves you feeling energised, which is really helpful when trying to sit through an afternoon of lectures that would otherwise drone over my head.
good luck, and keep me informed on how you are progressing :)

First off, congratulations on your decision to quit soda.
I have not come to that decision yet. I still drink my diet coke with my breakfast, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, dinner, and mid-night snack. I'm definitely sure that I wouldn't survive a day without it.
But I've been thinking of cutting back too. And I thought orange juice would be a good substitute. Would this work for you? Or any other kind of juice?

Well, I have stopped drinking sodas - regular and diet. Yet, I have lost pounds and never experience sugar cravings. I haven't really gotten tempted eating sugary foods. I just discipline my self to not eat.
