My Favorite Movie of All Time.

United States

This, for me, is an impossible topic. I have a thousand movies I enjoy so much that I will watch them over and over. Even if you break it down to genres the lists are still long. You have to break it down to actors and directors to get lists of only one or two, but in the case of Humphrey Bogart or Alfred Hitchcock the lists are still long. So what is my favorite movie. I don't know The Big Sleep? Rear Window? How about Miller's Crossing? I would like to know about your favorite movie and maybe add it to my list or check it off as one we both like.

Loved Illusionist and The Prestige. Pursuit of Happyness isn't as interesting as the actual person it is about.

Truly an impossible topic, dear uncorrectedvision! It really is hard to decide your ONE alltime favorite when the list of the favorites is long! I love to watch all types of movies equally, romance, action thrillers, comedy, family dramas etc. but more inclined towards romance and actions. In the action movies, my favorites are all the James Bond movies, of which Sean Connery is my most favorite Bond followed by newest Bond played by Craig! But the one movie that always makes me cry is Gone With The Wind! No other movie has ever moved me so much!

Here is a little trivia about classic movies. Both the Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind were both released in 1939 and here is the big kicker - they were directed by the same man Victor Fleming.

I have the same problem you have. Way too many movies to be able to narrow it down to just one favorite. Just last night I saw one that will make my list of favorites. The King's Speech. It's excellent. Not a big Humphrey Bogart fan. But, I love Hitchcock films. My favorite of his, I think, is Notorious. And, I always have to put in The Manchurian Candidate. The original one with Laurence Harvey and Frank Sinatra, though, not the remake.

It is hard to eliminate a Hitchcock movie from my list. The original Manchurian Candidate is so very good and Laurence Harvey was brilliant.

There are a lot of movies I like but when I'm asked what my favorite movie is, one title immediately comes into mind and that's While You Were Sleeping with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. It's a romantic comedy, and I don't know if you'll like it. Others I like are The Big Fish, Remember the Titans, Shutter Island, Secret Window, Secret Garden, and The Others.

Think about a few you do like and let me know. I love international cinema, too. Kurosawa, Truffaut, Goddard, Fellini, Bergman are awesome. Any other ideas?

Don't tell anybody, but, I liked The Notebook also. Not the usual admission for a man. I like romantic movies sometimes, it depends on who is in it. What was the movie with Russel Crowe in which he inherits a vineyard in France? I guess I like romantic comedies more.

You're right, it's an absolutely impossible category! I'll bet since I'm been a member of myLot and have posted in this interest the question, "What is your favorite all-time movie?" has come up over 100 times and I'd probably have a tough time narrowing it down to 100 movies. There are so many different genres of movies and then there are "sub-genres" within each genre. Many if not most films could actually be considered to be more than one genre. Some of my favorites have a little bit of everything - action, drama, romance, suspense, comedy. "Best movie" is a totally subjective phrase. Many movies that receive rave reviews don't do well at the box-office and are often snubbed by the various awards. Often the biggest blockbuster hits are panned by the critics and/or ignored by the "Academy" and other groups. My favorites come from "all of the above"! Some of the biggest hits were real bombs in my opinion and some movies the critics praised made no sense to me and weren't the least bit entertaining. For a movie to make my personal list of favorites it must be well-written, directed and acted. Like most people, I have my favorite actors whose films I usually make it a point to see, whether they're hits and well-received by the critics or not. There MUST be a good plot and character development. I have to have real feelings for the characters, both the heroes and the villains. One thing I've said for quite some time about many of the newer horror movies is they're technically superior to the old classics and most are certainly gorier and more violent but the characters are either so shallow or totally unlikeable that nobody could really CARE if they get chopped to pieces or not...lol! Your right its dificult to choose only one favorite especially if your a movie buff like me, though I'm a big horror and sci-fi watcher and there's a lot of people who are very squeamish about horror and sci-fi films, so I'm not sure you'll like my list but here goes. One dark night 80s horror Poltergeist 80s horror The stepfather 80s version only Aliens second installment made in the 80s great film. Here's a bit of mystery Vertigo love it, and the original psycho by hitchcock as you know, and I also love old biblical films like Samson and Delia, the ten commandment's I can go on and on but I wont lol.

I have too many favorites to name too. Beyond that, I also could never pick between them because I love them all equally and in different ways. lol. I love the movies: Georgia Rule, How to Deal, Four Brothers, The Labyrinth, Miss Congeniality, Detroit Rock City, Because I Said So...And a lot of others. There are just too many to name.

I've seen thousands of movies already but I haven't seen one that's actually life-changing. If there will be such a thing, I'd choose it as a favorite. Right now, they're just art.

I like movies a lot. But if I were to choose which is my most favorite movie of all time it has to be a movie that has themes about the really important things like honor, redemption, justice, etc. Given this criteria I would have to say Gladiator.

I am not having favoritism when it comes to movies. I am changing the movies that I like to watch whenever a new movie is released. There are indeed lots of movies I love watching over and over. And also because I have more than one movie genre that I love watching like, action, adventure, fantasy, etc., I cannot choose the best movie for me for all time. I really love watching movies as well as playing it s game version. In the game version, I am the star of the movie because I am controlling the character. LOL

It's kind of impossible for me to say what my all time favorite movie is since I enjoy watching different film genres. I've seen thousands of movies already but I've haven't seen one that totally hits the spot-the kind that's actually life-changing. Will there ever be such a thing?
