How many of you go to the library to borrow books? I do at least once a week and if you had asked me I would have said yes I know my library well. So this morning I took someone to sign up for the first time and then we did a tour of our branch.
I was amazed, I didn't know they had all those things available. Movies, DVDs, talking books, books in large type and on top of that I can sit at home and order books on line that are at the main library, they will call me when they come into the Branch. There are book clubs to join, Author's talks and many local meetings I can attend. have you investigated your local library lately?

I haven't gone to the library in awhile because I've been buying most of the books I want to read. I'm a mad crazy avid reader and I typically finished 2-3 books in a week. I went to the library a lot last year because I didn't have any money... but I can't stop reading for that! When I finish my current stack of like 30 books, I'll probably be going back to the library.
I already know that my library offers loads of DVDS, audio books, and that they have book clubs and writer's clubs. I've thought about attending some of those, but I don't have a whole lot of time with college being what it is. When I start going back to the library on a regular basis then I'll investigate more of the stuff they have to offer.

I do not go as often as I have in years past. It is just not something that I have as much time. Still it is still within walking distance of my house, so when I am on a walk, I swing by to check out what is going on every so often. Maybe once every month or so. Not really something that I do all that often. Years ago, I went every week. Now, just time is not on my side. Still when I do have time, I do stop in for a quick look around to see what the library has to offer.

I sure have! My daughter and I go to the library every school holidays and spend a great deal of time there. There are many things for both of us to enjoy including free internet! Our local library has book sales every few months which are great; you can take a shopping bag and fill to the brim with books and pay five bucks! It is their way of clearing old books and a great way for us to get bargain reading material!

Unfortunately I have to say that I haven't explored any of our local libraries recently. The main reason that I haven't done so is because I find it to be quite stressful to visit the library with my children because they really don't know how to behave at the library. However, I do know that they offer some great programs for children and we do participate in those from time to time. I know that the children need to have a love of books and I am trying the best that I can to instill that in my children.

Circulating libraries seem to have disappeared from my area. We have libraries with DVDs but not with books available. Its been a long time now since I last visited a library to borrow books. Nowadays I usually end up buying the books and reading.

I know my local library pretty well. Someone once asked me a question about some books, I told her that I wasn't sure where to find them and then she said: "Oh, sorry, when you walked around among the shelves you just seemed very confident and you seemed to know exactly where you were going and I thought that you worked here" I don't work at the library, but I visit it very often and I generally know where to find the different books or dvds. I often use the website and and make reservations online, when the books arrive I receive an email and then I pick up the books. Sometimes I use the website to find the authors that I am interested in and then I find the books myself.

I used to be a bookworm and there was a time when I topped the list of borrowers in our school. Sad to say, I lost this practice recently.
I visited our public library only twice and how I wish we have book clubs here and local meetings. Or perhaps, there is but I just don't know about. You arouse my curiosity and will inquire from our public library if they know of one which I could join. That's interesting.

hi pat, we don't have that much public libraries here although I loved going to school libraries when I was a student.I have plenty of books my late father left us but they are mostly encyclopedias and information is already obsolete. The other thing I love which he left me are great books of the western world, a large collection of all the great western thinkers like Plato,Aristotle, Sigmund Freud, Machiavelli etc... that would take more than a life time to read. My use of the library or books diminished after the internet.

Yes, I have.I like going to the library. My library also has an area to do genealogy through their computer using different software on it, which is neat and you can use their computers to go on the internet. My library has all of the things that you said too. They even have a childrens reading program during the summer that have activities going on like magicians and different things that come their to entertain the kids.

I used to go to our local library when I was doing my thesis because I need theses and dissertations as references. Going to the library wasn't a problem for me because it was near to our house (walking distance). Now, I rarely visit the library. Perhaps, if they increase and improve the collection, I would be enticed to go there often.

We go at least once a week and our library was doubled in size last year. It is a beautiful and peaceful place. I think in addition to all you listed I can get them to e mail me when my books are due, if I want to. When they remodeled they made such a beautiful job of it. I feel so peaceful when I am there.

Yes, I go there at least every 3 weeks when my books are due or sometimes more often. I am pretty aware of what they have there as well as all those activities such as book signings and group stuff. I get very excited when there's all these books that I can checkout for free on topics that interest me!

I haven't been to my local library in over a year. It's a very small place because this is just a bedroom community. The extra services like DVDs are also too small and mostly family-oriented. It got to the point where I couldn't find anything I wanted to read there and had to ask for books through the interlibrary loan service. So now I buy my books or read free books and articles online.

Well, it seems that you have got a very good library. My school's library is just a small building and all their collection is journals, newspapers, textbooks and some professional books. All the stuff is about study. So, that library is just a place that I could borrow textbooks and reference books. Absolutely no entertainment.
