Fake profiles

Sometimes people have multiple profiles on the same social networking site, especially on sites like Facebook. Now I have seen my cousin logging into a separate account that he created just to play Mafia Wars, the game. Several people who play the same game send friend requests. These people are quite serious about this game. They form a group that they say 'clan' which, my cousin says, facilitates the game in many ways. I made a fake profile once just to see how desperate most of the chatters are to befriend a girl. I gave it a girlish name and people started to bombard me in yahoo chatrooms. I logged into this account only once and on that day number of visitors to my blog reached over 1,000.

hi joystick I am inundated with friends of friends wanting to' be added to my friends lists. I do not know which are friends'from mylot here and who are people I have never met. but how do you know which people have false profiles and how do you know that facebook people are adding those with fake profiles. I am not sold on facebook at all. I joined mainly because my son is on it and because the hatley relatives wanted to be added as friends.

I have so many reason that i rare to visit my facebook. but do you know that you can build your business through facebook friend? it is okay if they are using a fake profile, we just don't have to affected by creating a fake profile too.

There are a lot of people who does that on Facebook and other social sites. They're scammers so I suggest you just ignore anyone who tries to add you as a friend that you don't know. Protect your profile as much as possible from those scammers.

Hi joystick, i will not use facebook so i dont have problem with it. My friends also don't have account in it so then what is the use of opening an account? Here in mylot i will add the friends just like that because they asked so. I personally never give any add request unless until i feel their profile is good. There are members in my list but they are not active also. But i will feel bad to remove them from the list, feeling they feel. Have a nice day.

This is a common practice with many online sites and people finding way to defraud members. It is inevitable as it will continue to happen. We have to be cautious and simply question everything, remove and delete any suspicions a.s.a.p. Be careful joystick fraud lurk everywhere.

Really? Wow,I didn't know this was happening. The only people I am concerned with probably wouldn't think of this, so I guess I am ok. That really stinks though, that someone would go that low to stalk another person, but this is also why I am careful who I accepted as a friend on this site..

Wow, really? It's amazing how low people will go to spy on others. I never add anyone I don't know, so I guess I don't need to worry too much about someone "fake" adding me.

hi joy, profiles usually have that things to say about themselves and that is where they mostly attract people if not the picture avatar. why do you think some put pictures there of actors and actresses? because they thought that it will attract you and others to communicate with them but what for? that is the real question. like in the newspaper, everything that you read may not be true or an exaggeration. so beware. have a nice day. ann

Hello joystick! Well, you say there are lots of people with fake profiles stirring others and that's the reason you are not in Facebook, but why accepting someone you don't know? I think Facebook is to connect with the ones you do already know and share pics, updates and whatever else you can do on Facebook. If what you want is to make new friends, no matter the site, any site, there are always people with fake identities! That's my point of view, enjoy Facebook only to stay updated with the people you already know! Have a nice day!

Well, me i don't mind adding friends i don't know, cause there are lots of things to say what are their reason adding you..Maybe you have the same interest, group that might as well share your ideas, or maybe people add you because they wan't to promote something...well you can still control your friend list right.. if you don't know and don't like to add them then don't....:-) happy my lotting

Hello joystick! I really do not know which is fake and which is not but i guess you would know by the way they interact with you. There are all sorts of people out there and I guess we just have to accept that. I follow my instincts in trying to assess posts and responses. I try to be careful though and I would like to say that I have been okay so far. I have a facebook but more of a lurker (my cousin's description which I am borrowing here) and not really an active participant. I just look at entries and move on. Blessed Sunday, joystick!

Actually friend here in mylot is possible that some of us here are having fake profile if we can consider from avatar upto to some details of personal details. However, yes some are using other person profile for their intention. Regarding in facebook yes there are so many fake profile, like 1 year old son create a profile but who is doing update their news feed. there are many... see you around

ya,there are many facebook celebrity profile fakes,they keep profile picture as their celebrity,and posts some photoes about the same celebrity and facebook even not take care about verifying them as the original user or not as twitter and ibibo checks the genuinity,so avoiding fake profiles will improve facebook quality more...

In my opinion you can make friend in facebook whom you known in past i.e. class mates, colleague, family fiends not unknown people. As we are trying to make friendship with unknown people there are lot of scams are trying to make friend for business or other purpose. Fake profile is to get lot of friends to show other and to do business with those lists.

i am careful with adding people from facebook i am mostly there just to promote business and join groups i make friends with those in the same group only because i then know they share the same interest or belief

I've NEVER been on Facebook as there are way too many problems there!!! It seems to me that we have a similar problem on myLot!!! I suddenly have a person send a friend's request. They have not been here for long & I have had NO interaction with them!!! My first thought...WHY do they want to be friends??? Then if I watch them for a few days, I notice that they are ALWAYS there to defend a troll with everything the troll has to say. Since we cannot see the person & there is no real way to verify who they are, I just don't follow up on any of their discussions & ignore their remarks. It seldom takes long to figure out who your real friends are!!!

I have never understood what the reason is that people think that they need to have fake profiles on facebook. I personally have one and only one facebook account. My children both have one (that I will admit that I used to play games), but my husband does not have a facebook account. I do know of some people that do have fake profiles, but I don't understand why it is that they have fake profiles, it doesn't make sense to me at all.

Yes, I agree- some people use fake names on facebook but it is okay as long as no one else has that name. I don't like those people who use names of celebrity so people would go on their page- too much attention seeking. I only add those i personally know.

hi, fake profiles is everywhere, but most of my friends have the correct information, maybe those who have that fake one are those who wants to raven their friends especially in facebook.
