I have written over 350 poems in the past and have found over the last couple of years I am in a dry spell. A "block" if you will.
Does anyone have any tactics they take in order to get back on track with writing. It used to pour out of me, and lately - I get one-to-four lines and come to a halt.
I miss writing.... Any experiences/suggestions you can share?

I sometimes like to use writing prompts that I find online. Even if you have already started, but only have one to four lines, you can incorporate the prompt into what you have already written.
Another good thing to do when you get stuck is try rearranging and reformatting the words. Try a different style, try different wording. You just got to find the groove and then it will just flow naturally.
Also, if you get stuck, or before you begin writing at all, just get a poetry book or find some poetry online and just read. This helps me to get in a poetic mood and also gives me ideas about styles, topics, etc.
I love poetry and I really hope that you can beat this block soon. :)

Interesting.. What do you mean tho, exactly about writing "prompts" maybe if i search it I'll know what you mean more (and I will try it!) Sounds cool and different!
I like your other ideas too. =D Thanks for sharing!

writing prompts are just ideas to get you started. They are topic ideas or style ideas. Sometimes they will give you a list of words that you are supposed to incorporate into your writing. You can just search "poetry prompts". Here is a site that I have used. It has tons of ideas.

I know what you are going through. Being a poet myself, There is nothing more frustrating than a lack of inspiration. I once wrote the lyrics and music to an entire patriotic musical. Of course, with the responsibility came the inspiration and it became my most prolific time for poetry. You need to set yourself a goal to write a series of poems on one theme.
What type of poetry do you write (rhyme, prose)? My specialty is rhyme.
Do you have a poetry blog? Spending time on a blog will keep you busy organizing and collecting your poetry. Get engrossed in it.

Thanks, I really appreciate your advice.
And ironically, I think I subconsciously know exactly what you're talking about. Because the site I post my poetry there are "contests" and I would enter them trying to force something out per the topic that interested or inspired me.
That does help, although I miss the carefree flow I once had... :(
I love rhyme, that's my favorite. But I do dabble in other forms as well.
Again, thank you. I'll try it more according to that technique. :D

Christina do you remember at all what was happening around you at the time you were most creative at all?
For some people can be the mental stimulation of chatting to certain people or events that triggers the creative flow.
For others it can be listening to certain types of music or even been at particular places or simply a case of stresses etc.
I used to have what call muses people in my life that whenever chatted to would trigger a huge creative phase.
Good luck with it all
:)
