When you travel, are you fond of staying at luxury hotels?

I was reading an article in Yahoo about the world's most expensive hotels and I cant believe that there is a hotel that costs 65000 US$ per night. 65000$ can help build a lot of homes and help families in Africa! I would really feel guilty staying there. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with staying at luxury hotels but come on 65000US$ for a one night stay is so impractical even for the richest people on earth! How about you, are you fond of staying in luxury hotels? I have attached a photo of the room that costs 65000 US$ a night!

usually when I am holiday, the holiday is just for sleeping and resting, I rather spend the money on shopping and eating and moving around. My bags and luggage use the room more then me so no I would not be fond of staying in a luxury hotel.

lealuvy2j for 65000 US$ per night I could have actually gone for at least 6 more holidays, I think that would be money well spent. Perhaps if it was given to me free I would not mind.
puccagirl totally, how much time do you spend in the hotel anyway right. I think we could spend it else where.

It would really be a total waste of money to pay 65000 US$ per night just so your bags and luggage can use the room. If ever I do stay in a hotel this expensive (I doubt it!), I think I would not go outside the hotel and I would just enjoy the amenities that the hotel offers because if I would try to travel outside, it would be very impractical.

Yes, I agree. I also never stay at the hotel too much when I travel, I prefer to be out and about in the city or place where I am instead. So just because of that, spending huge amounts on the hotel just does not make much sense to me.

I love travelling. I enjoy going to places I had never been. And whenever I go out I choose not to stay at hotels. Though sometimes yes, but I got lot of self fulfillment whenever I tried to sleep on places that is very different from the usual.
Like for example, in the beach. I choose to rent a tent and camp. It is very usual fr everyone sleeping in bed, watching tv etc. So when travelling it allows me to do things I'm not used to. That makes it the best and full of memories.

There is a place here in the Philippines where camping out by the beach is very popular. May I know if the beach you are referring to is Anawangin? I am just guessing seeing that you are from the Philippines as well. Have fun travelling my kababayan!

I wouldn't want to stay in a luxury hotel. One night spent in one could be the same amount of money as lots of days budget traveling which would be more enjoyable and exciting. I like to stay in a locally owned guest house or unusual accommodation. Like in Belize I adored staying in a tree house and in Mexixo I stayed in a thatched beach hut that had a sand floor. 650,000 US $ would be better spent on houses for a number of poor people in Africa. In a poor country I wouldn't feel comfortable about living richly amounst all the poor people.

I could not afford to stay in a hotel that expense, even if I could I do not want to stay in one that expensive becase I have better things to do with my money. I like to stay in hotels that are mid rage in price. my gf like to stay in house or condo type rental. Luxuury hotles are fine with me but they have to be in a reasible price range.

65000 dollars a night. You know, I just might try it, to see what it has to offer
I can't even get annoyed when I hear about such amounts, they're so out of my budget range, I can't even begin to understand what it means to pay that much for a night. (I suddenly got an idea about what kind of services I might expect for this sum, but I can't type that here without blushing.)
Now, within my budget range, if I can afford it, I might pick a nice hotel - that is, not the absolute cheapest on the list. For instance, I've just booked a trip to Prague for March, and I've picked a hotel that was about 15 dollars/night more expensive than the cheapest option available. But it's closer to the city center, it has wireless Internet, a nice breakfast included - and, the most important thing, I could afford it without stretching the budget for the rest of the trip.
I think it's important to have a nice, cozy room waiting for you when you're in a foreign country.

I am not sure that if I am rich, I would still want to stay in that hotel but I have a strong feeling that I would be really guilty if I do because it is so impractical and the money could really be of big help to people who are in need. Anyway, when I travel, as long as the place is comfy and clean, I wouldn't mind paying extra.

I would expect a year of travel for that sort of amount of money. One night for that price is a very silly cost indeed even for the world´s richest people. When I was in Cape Town I went on a walking tour of a poor townwship. An Irish charity is buidings houses there that cost per month what the guest house I was staying at per night. I like to stay at locally owned guest houses where some local people like to stay at too. Unsual accommodation like a tree house also interests me. I am a low cost indepedent traveler.

We stay at nice, but more average hotels. We like to stay at Marriott's particularly Marriott residence Inns. Probably the most luxurious room we ever had was at the Heart Break Hotel in Nashville, TN we got a suite there that cost $300 per night, I had gotten a big bonus that year. The room was all decked out in silver. It had a kitchen, dining room, bedroom, 2 bathrooms and was really lavishly decorated with large screen TV's. It was really nice, but that is not the typical kind of room that we stay in.

If I had $65000 I definately wouldn't spend it on a hotelroom. In the past I have stayed many different kinds of places. I have stayed at hostels, cheap hotels, medium hotels and a few expensive hotels. A few times I have stayed at expensive hotels, because there were no cheap rooms available in the city that I visited, but I usually try to avoid the expensive hotels when I travel. I prefer to spend the money on other things like sightseeing or the local food and I am not going to spend that much time in the room anyway.
$65000 is a lot of money to spend on a single night and if I had that kind of money I would prefer to psend some of it on charity instead. There are so many places that I would like to support, and if I had the chance I would like to donate more money to charity instead of spending a huge amount of money on myself.

Nope, I believe that when I travel the hotel is not a big part of it. Then again, that depends on the vacation location. Disney World, for instance, and Las Vegas, both depend a lot on the hotel. It can make the whole vacation. But a trip to other places, not a huge importance for me. I usually go for the culture and the experience of the place...not the room that I sleep in. :)

I have nothing against people who really extravagant in spending for their vacation, besides we should pamper ourselves sometimes especially if we can afford such. Maybe those people really wanted to satisfy their free time, and why not? If they gone through busy working more of thier lives, nothing wrong to give the best for themselves.
For me, if I can..why not? Maybe there are people in need, we can help them in some way, but we also gone through life's ups and downs and deserve to treat ourselves, besides we worked hard for it.

I am an Avid Trekker and Camper , So Hotels don't find a place in my list of Travel compulsories.
I'd rather love to stay in tents , camps or in Homestays. By this way i could get to know more about the places and the people living over there . It creates a bond between you and the people , which you can't get in a hotel in a true sense .
I might though try out it once just for the sake of it , but that's just once....

I like to stay in luxury hotels but not that good. Maybe 650 US$ a night is sorta ok but not that much! That is outrageous and I agree that it can help a lot of families in Africa and make a lot of peoples lives better. Even if I can afford that I wouldn't because you can spend they money in a lot more better ways (that was the worst English I ever used not sure what is should be though).

When it comes to traveling to any place, I don't really see the point staying at luxury hotels. I only stay in modest two-three star hotels at most because I know the next morning I will go out to travel to places. This is where I don't see why I should be staying at luxury hotel, that's not really having the real holiday experience. The real holiday experience is where we travel to historic sites, attractions, anything that country / city have. Staying at luxury hotel room is just purely wasting money. Well that's my thought anyway. Even though if I am rich, no need for me to splash money for something that I think unnecessary to get. I am not looking up to the wealthy, but I am more concerning looking at more unfortunate people.

I like to travel, I'd love to stay on a luxury hotel if I'm not paying! haha!
I'd like to try the hotel room you're saying, but unfortunately, even if I have that much money, I won't spend it to stay there for a night. Like you said, it's tad impractical. I'd rather buy stuff that I need, or want, or better yet, use it to help others. I like helping others out, so probably that much money would be used to help people that I know.
I've stayed in a few luxury hotel and it's such a nice experience. The ambiance of the room, the soft beds and sofas, the service! It's really great!

Well to be honest, I would actually stay on a not so expensive hotel when I travel. Why? The reason for this is that, I could probably use the money I stay on a hotel for going around, shopping, and having fun instead. Given that 80% of the time when travelling I would be out and not lying in bed in a hotel room.

No, not really. I think it is better to stay at a reasonable priced hotel so that you can also eat well, go shopping and do other things while you are away. So I prefer nice, but not overly expensive hotels myself.

USD65,000!!! I can travel around the world with that money. Even if I have that money, I will not try to book in that room.
Actually when I travel, I usually stay in a budget or backpacker's hotel. But when some 4 star hotel has promos that is too cheap that it cannot be ignored, I try to grab them. For instance, I went to Cambodia last year. I luckily stumbled upon this promo of a 4 star hotel that offers USD40 per person for 3 Days and 2 Nights. Now, who couldn't resist that?! But I have tried some luxury hotels as well. We were booked in such hotels when we go to a meeting, company outing or a familiarization tour.

Ah no.
When I travel, I have the tendency to stay on cheap hotels so as to maximize the money I could use for visiting tourist spots and on tasting local delicacies in the places that I visit.
I prefer to travel cheap to maximize the place I can go.
