With the advent of innovative technologies like the internet it also creates an alternate medium for news from which people can get free access to news and can get updated regularly. Excellent idea right? apparently not everyone thinks the same.
Rupert murdroch the media tycoon feels that news should never be free and it is this free news that is ruining the media industry as he feels that search engines like google are 'stealing' his content. His next step is to make all his customers pay for getting access to news as far as his websites are concerned, thinking that if successful, other websites will follow.
Now you tell me fellow myloters, would you pay for accessing news on the internet if it means more so-called quality news or you would not?

Would I pay for it? If there were no other sources or if the service was something I would enjoy visiting because of other things as well. I don't know why people always things have to be free. When things are free someone else always pays for it.
The problem is that even though I like to see the "right" side of things (haha pun intended) I like to also see what the left is saying but I wouldn't want to pay for their service. :) Maybe if there was a place who brought both of them together would be nice.

Hi boxxerdude,
This is nice question and lets see we buy newspaper daily so we do pay for news. So i donot think Rupert murdroch is wrong in his thinking as collecting news and putting online cost money. But thing is if i am already paying for my newspapers and then have a Dish connection where i am already subscribed to countless channels, then why would i pay online too? I would rather skip online news how fast it may come.

I'd never pay for news because it isn't that important to me, in the first place. And there are hundreds of sites on the web that offer news for free, in the second place. It's already clear from the lost subscriptions that the Murdoch realm has had, that most people won't pay. If you pay for something, you're going to want to full value out of it. That means you're going to spend your time on what you paid for, which means you'll have less time for other news sources, and will be stuck with one point of view. The benefit of the internet is that you can get the news from many different angles and decide for yourself who's presenting it accurately and who's trying to influence how you think.

I think free online news is good enough. There are also many sources if one site is insufficient. The only reason why anyone might want to pay is if you are a journalist yourself and you need to get the news on your own website at real-time speed.
But no thanks, not for me. Call me cheapskate.

I don't think I would be willing to pay for a news content. My concern would be it will be too tasky on how to make the payment. Surely they gonna use pay pal or western union. Well i am not much into current events, and the important news are given free at yahoo home pages isn't it.And if one intends to publish online his bit of news , he should have it copyrighted so to somehow protect his works.

For the general news content, I would surely not pay a dime, but, with some clever thinking and marketing, the news companies might get some money from me. For instance, I always thought it would be wise for them to sell the copyright to news images. Let's say, for a few dollars a month, you get the right to re-publish a certain number of their images to your own blog, site, book, or whatever you want. I could really use such a service, and it's a shame nobody's offering it for a reasonable price. People steal pictures online all the time, I would be willing to pay for them.
