How do you remember dreams?

I've heard it said we all dream every night but we seldom remember them. I would love to be able to remember my dreams more often than I do. Is there a formula or food which will cause one to remember what was dreamed? If you have any suggestions I'm sure a lot of people would like to know. Also, do you dream in color or black and white?

You should start a dream journal. You need to keep pen and paper beside your bed and write whatever you do remember of your dream the moment you wake up. The best way to remember a dream is to re-live it in your mind as soon as you wake up but it will last a lot longer if you write it down. This really works! You may have to condition yourself to grabbing that pen as soon as you wake up, though. I'm usually so groggy when I first wake up there's no way I could think straight. To counter that, I learned to re-live the dream in my mind, then write it down as soon as I was functional. Maybe that's age-related or it's because I never was a morning person. But, writing down the dream as SOON as you can is essential.

Maybe I should have said I can never remember that I've even dreamed. When I wake up I am usually unaware that I've even dreamed. I'm sure I did but most of them don't stick out as a dream. I'll learn how to express myself one day. Thanks for the response mentalward.

I think there is no special food to remember the dreams.I can recall some of my dreams.I believe in dreams and lots of my dreams came true.I almost always i remember my dreams.some dreams are wonderful but when is the best moment my mother or father wake up me,then i cant finish my dream. But proper interpretation of dreams is much more complex for majority. Interpretation of dreams is one of the most difficult thing and rather it have it roots in occult traditions and human collective unconsciousness .I believe what I like of my dreams and I always try to forget my bad ones.

You might try repeating, "I will remember my dreams" to yourself before you go to bed. I've always had really good dream recall and I've never needed to try that, but I've heard that it works so you might give it a go. I've kept a dream journal since I was twelve and it really helps me to remember my dreams. Before that I would tell my sister my dreams every morning. So if you do remember a dream then write them down. When I wake up I usually immediately try to remember my dreams. Sometimes it's a little harder. I can't recall dreaming anything at all. So I make a mental review of what seems to be on my mind and usually I can connect what's on my mind to something that I was dreaming about. Once I start to remember flashes of the dream I can usually get the rest of the dream to come out.

Oh, and I dream in color! I even remember some specific colors of objects when I wake up.
