Oh this is their natural way of healing themselves. Cats chew grass or green leaves to induce vomiting undigested food. Isn't it wonderful that animals have this kind of instinct same with us with our defense mechanisms!

Grass can induce vomiting and it can also settle an animals stomach if it is upset.

all domestic cats will chew on and swallow grass. It acts as an emetic and helps the cat to vomit up any furballs and also to induce vomiting to get rid of indigestible food that might have been eaten.

Cats and dogs also eat grass as a natural solution to severall digestive sintoms, most of the times to induce vomit, but also helps balance the pH level in the stomach. My cat does it most of the times i goes out.
You have to be careful to avoid places where the grass has poison and other quimical wich could be very dangerous to your cats health.
Grass can also be a carrier of severall parasites wich grab the cats fur and feed of its blood.
There are severall veterinary products that can help you avoid this too.
