I read in a newspaper that the Philippines had a damaged culture due to society disintegration, people competition, political dynasty, government corruptions, demonstration, cheating, violence, heinous crimes, killing, etc..etc..Do you agree with it or disagree? Why?

"We are what we make ourselves to be", no one's gonna help us except ourselves, we hoped, we dreamed, we elected a new president,Asia's becoming becoming a new zone of prosperity so let's not miss out on this. Sorry but I belong to the small pocket of resistance that still think we can still make a miraculous turn around and still firmly believes that a least we are still better off than other countries. We did it before, then why can't we make it now? We all have the faculties , the talent, and the resources to do it but some of us simply refuse, desert or has given up. It's like a crumbling beautiful old house that needs maintenance, if you leave it as such and do nothing, then for sure it's gonna fall apart, it's not too late pal,I hope

Yes, it's right for us to deliver our best to help & protect our country by way of helping our leaders build develop Philippines into the future. Some Filipinos are really exercising their freedom in a negative way. Why not help our present leaders to achieve 100& betterment of our country through contributing something useful to our leaders. Poverty is the root of all causes done by this damaged culture thing? Or, we are experiencing a more difficult changes brought by other nations? We can answer these by means of full cooperation with our family, society, leaders, citizens, etc.. etc..without any remorse as to why. We have to trust our leaders and suggest productive solutions to our country's problems.

hello fx, This is true. Even our education rate is getting worst. How come our tradition and culture will soon become just a shadow of the past? It is because we are adapting every culture that foreign people are feeding us. It is very sad,Filipino tradition is not even taught in our schools. Where are those folk dances?...what's the music and PE teachers are teaching now? Our youngsters doesn't even know our folk songs. Are we going to forget what our national hero fight for? That's a rel big question...very sad,but is happening. Have a great day and welcome to mylot

education - this is located at aurora a quezon
More like slowly deteriorating. you know the muslim teacher that my mom was helping cried because of success that she had in her teaching demonstration. unfortunately, those kinds of demo aren't around any more since public schools have ran out of budget for training, supervisors, and others. before, my former public school has a supervisor, a section of school of the future and accelerated class. unfortunately, that's not around anymore. but i hope things can turn around, even if our time has come to an end

We can control this matter by way of giving the younger generation the best example that we can afford to help. We can teach them the good things and be a good example to them. Thanks a lot friend.

culture under attack - this time it's a sense in this century.
Hello FX, FINALLY, SOME ONE WHO SEE FOR WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON IN THIS COUNTRY! Political Dynasty in terms of winning the election every time there is one in every two or six years, it's rare that they lose. demonstrations? some are real but just annoying since they can sit in the table and talked about solving it. i believe this country isn't safe anymore most specially in the urban areas where crooks can choose any one they want. as for the society and employment trend, we have become more of an labor power to the other countries. our best of the best are leaving us and the other powerful countries benefit and only the remittances are the ones that they contribute. damage culture in a sense that few people speak the native tongue and prefers english language instead. most don't even pay respect to the flag when singing the national anthem.

You're absolutely right and true we are only laborers of other countries where an OFW's a heroes. Also, we're experiencing "brain drain" starting when our country was really in a bad shape. We have to build a nation that's stable in terms of economy, infrastructure, education, etc..and government leaders that can solve all the problems of our society. We are a poverty-stricken country with a backward way of improving the so called Philippines. Thanks for participating and hoping that Filipino youngsters will be more concerned with our country to build and respect the law of the land.

"Few people speak the native tongue" - I am quite confused by what you just said. Are you talking about the medium of language use in the office/business or the language used in homes? Because in our homes, and I am sure everywhere else except if the inhabitants are Fil-Ams or foreigners - Filipinos always speak their native tongue. In offices yes English is required. I dont think those alone means our culture is broken, since I know Indians speak more English than us and yet they are at par with China.

Yes, this is true, we are having a badly damaged culture. This is because many of our people are disintegrated from the society where the rich and the elite set standard copied from the western way of life. Imagine how can a poor son or daughter of a fisherman celebrate thanksgiving day, Halloween, egg-hunting during Eastern Sunday? They made life look so miserable for this section of the society, of course with the help of the media. In the news , you can see rich people brandishing clothes lines available only in exclusive stores, speaking in a language they hardly understand.English, (the language of power here)is spoken in every programs and shows as if all the people can understand it.The results of this disintegration is crime, violence, killings, and manipulations!

You're here again Edna. I am thankful for you for answering my question/s. Yes, some answered not damaged and your answer is damaged. Well, you're right in a sense that you observed the ills of our society ans maybe little by little, this disintegration may caused a huge problems on our society. thank you friend.

We're been like this for a long time and nobody really wants to fix the problem. At root of the problem are we, the people who have trouble recognizing our identities and skills apart from our counterparts in other countries. If I may, It seems that the cancer that Rizal mentioned is still spreading slowly but surely in our society and we have done nothing to fight it or at least reform some of our ways that we know are hindering us to be better. I say that we have this mentality of being stagnant and settling for second best. we hardly support our countrymen who try to make us better. This evolves into having no no willpower to at least eradicate or make the situation better for all of us.

Good points jeanneyvonne! We are continuing the generations of those people - our grandfathers - who started Philippines as a country. I refer you to read the "Gutenberg's Project" about the History of the Philippines. Our history where we came from is what we are experiencing right now. Our (mixed race) speaks the truth.

Yes, and that's true. Glabally, this subject is very astonishing to some, and they don't bother to ask why. It is our duty as a citizen of our country to help the image and help develop into a productive country. Thanks Piya84. Are you an Indian lady? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hmmm, damaged culture? Is that an official social science terminology? Can culture be damaged? Or culture could just be tucked in some corner of history, and then allow the new age to write its development and progress... As to that newspaper report, I do beg to disagree that the Philippines had been damaged because of the disintegration of a few... because many of us are still intact, our children growing up, going to school, learning the old fashioned kind of love and life. We do not join the rat race and the greed that goes with it. We do not aspire for false ambition that we could conquer the world and lose our soul in the process.... There are many of us here whose lives are not splashed out in the papers for infamy... please, we are not damaged, and will never get to that...

Damaged culture is not an official science terminology, but it's been on the news and more Filipino people talking and debating about it. I'm asking here about your views about this subject. You answered that it's not in your family, then fine, it's good to know. In addition, your clan is not affected by this DC. Also, it's great! Thank you for your participation and I appreciate it a lot.

indeed there is a damaged culture. This so called "damage" was caused by the different events in the previous years. By years i mean decades ago. Culture cannot be easily changed. Unfortunately, currently all we can do is to gradually change what we do not want in the society. This would include behaviors that deteriorate the morality in the society and those actions that contribute to the suffering of the societal members (corruption etc.) while we cannot entirely sweep it all off (IT IS 100% IMPOSSIBLE FOR US TO ERADICATE THE NEGATIVE FORCES), it is possible to change it gradually and lessen it. However, with the path that people are taking today, i think it is indeed a great challenge for us. There is indeed a damaged culture but you cannot expect this damage to be remedied in a short period of time. Vigilance could be a good way to address this but it would require a lot of effort and strength in numbers if we would really want to have a desirable culture.

I agree with you all throughout of the gradual changes but we as the knowledgeable can contribute even in a simple way to change for the betterment of our country and citizens. We have to start early and be vigilant in every aspects of helping our leaders reach the so called "productive contributions". If you are thinking the 100% impossible, then, you are not forceful enough for the changes. Slowly yes, but we have aim higher and do the best method to eradicate negative aspects of our society. So long, if, all the leaders who truly serve our countrymen would exert more effort to solve these problems. We need the cooperation of the masses through the best leadership of our leaders. We cannot move forward, if even ourselves could not give our 100% contribution as a citizen? Thanks for your participation and I appreciate it so much.
