I have lived most of my young life in the rural areas where I could always have a close touch with nature: the rivers, the steams, the wide-open field and the clear view of Mt. Malasimbu. These were part of my experiences long before I knew what they were and even noticed that they were there. I really came to realized how much rural life were a part of me. Yes indeed, country life if full of life! Do you have any wonderful moments or experiences about rural life?

I remember climbing mango trees, trying to catch dragonflies, and accidentally stepping on cow poop. I lived in Imus,Cavite in the Philippines when I was until until I was 17, and although the town is not very rural, it still has a lot of farmlands. When I was in my teens I would take shortcuts in ricefields to secretly meet up with my boyfriend by the haystacks. hahahah. I'm in the city now and my friends all laugh at my farm girl adventures whenever I tell them about it.

Yes I do. Looking bak in my younger years, I missed the times we're playing and having a picnic in the field, climbing tall fruit trees, playing underneath the light of the moon at night and even eating near the seashore. Even now that I'm here in a congested and busy city, I still find time even once in a month to spend time in the province. It's always nice to reminisce those memories and I would always cherish that.

I've been a city dweller all of my life and have little experience of rural life. Our place was once a part of a big province but was made part of Metro Manila in the 70's. Life here is not much different from rural areas. We still have rice fields and vast lands planted with peanuts, singkamas and vegetables like eggplants and Okra. We have harvesting time as well as planting seasons. It was only then when developers came in that landowners converted their lands into subdivisions and housing projects bloomed . Soon the rustic life here went along with changes and city life became the standard in every day's life!

i have lived in rural area but it is actually a "civilized rural area" it looks like a city and i guess sooner or later it would turn into a city. However, the culture that can be seen on the area is still rural-ish. You might see traces of urbanity due to the changes brought by technology but in terms of human relationships, it could be clearly seen that it is still rural. It is really nice to live in this kind of place rather than living in a completely urban area where life is really fast paced. I really like the human relationships or the close bond among the people in rural areas. and the filipino culture can be clearly seen in rural setting. Even in the modern times, you will be pleased to see the real filipino culture around you.

I grew up in the beautiful countryside of Surigao del sur where houses nestled along the beaches and mountains. Yes!I had a wonderful childhood. Those were the years where I relished the idea of dreaming big for my future. I love my life in the rural areas because the tranquil environment and the serenity of a simple lifestyle made me think that the world we are living is as peaceful and magnificent as fairytale stories. If I have enough money, maybe I would buy a huge farm or get back the large farm my father sold to our relatives when I was still in high school. I want to do some farming business and build a house there.

Hi, Yeshuakaleo. Glad to join your topic.
I have enjoyed my childhood in the rural areas same as you. I and my elder brother and other little companions were running around the field, lying in the sun, catching fishes, playing hide-and-seek games...I cannot stop the beautiful memories about my childhood rural life. What a view! What a close touch with the nature! I will never forget all my life. That is beautiful and pure life.
Best Regards,
Happy mylotting!

Yes, eon of years ago and it is quite nostalgic, now that you mention it.
We used to go home to my mother's hometown when we were young (high school years). We, meaning all of my cousins and we would have fun jumping from the pier to the deep sea which almost got me drowned. I remember walking over ricefields and riding a carabao. There is a smell that is quite specific to rural areas, the green grass which you miss living in the city and sound of the chirping of birds.
Nostalgic, yes, but nice. Thanks for your post.

I grew up in the province and had lots of good memories of my childhood years.
We play with mud, we play in the rain. All we have are tin cans in lieu of beautiful kitchen toys. We play traditional Filipino games that I think most children nowadays aren't playing anymore. There are no internet, computer or TV to entertain you. What we usually do at night to bond is to tell make-believe stories or tell jokes. Life there is simple and peaceful. It gives me a good feeling to reminisce childhood memories in the province.

I live in the city of our province since i started going to school in high school until now that i am married and with my family. City though it may be, but there's still some aspects of it that is rural.
Anyway, sometimes during week-ends i would go home to my paternal house and there experience a true rural place and ways of living.
The house is surrounded with a big lawn , with lots of flowering plants and in our backyard are fruit trees and vegetable plants. There are chickens roaming around in the backyard and the leashed dogs are there to guard the premises. You can see in the backyard our neighboring place , some ricefields, which is a site to behold specially when they are near harvest time. I love picking fruits straight from the trees!
I can say, there's really true peace and quiet in our rural area, where it is far from those raging public & private transports and people rushing to and fro.

I am woman who was born in South Africa, Eastern Cape, Transkei. I was raised by my grand parents who taught me how to milk a cow, raise livestock, sheep, goats cows etc. meal-fields were being plough to grow vegetables, mealies and others. in the rural area then there was no electricity, no taps for water and clinics. we were using firewoods to cook and we need to fetch them in the forests where birds are singing freely and nicely, but nowadays, life have been changed, there are taps, electricity and clinics. Those who have livestock they do slaughter any of those if they want to do. Gardens are there for everyone to grew up their , spinach, tomatoes etc to feed their families and those who cannot afford to do it
