Schooldays are supposedly the best days of our lives. Not for me. I hated almost everything about school. But nearly 40 years after I left there are times when I would go back tomorrow. Would you want to go back to school or are your after school days the happiest days of your life?

I enjoyed school itself but was always teased so it was a miserable time for me. That lasted through high school and I was so happy to be done with it that I even refused to attend my graduation ceremony. I'm sorry I deprived my parents of seeing that but I did not want to set foot on the property again. I had even moved to a new school in my last year but it was still awful. I did enjoy learning, though.
Even if my school days were happy I would not want to go back. I enjoy my life right now too much. Of course, if I knew then what I know now my school days would have been quite different and probably pretty great.

Bernard Shaw said that "Youth is wasted on the young" but he might have said "Education is wasted..." instead! In truth there are some days when I think that it would be nice but it would have to be on my terms. I don't recollect that being the case last time I went to school!

I would totally go back to school....and I would do better the second time around. I didnt do bad the first time but I basically made my way through it....vs really trying to do well.
After school I didnt want to go to college either, and I didnt, I said I just wanted to get a job and be a working woman.....well 20 yrs later, I wish I had gone to college....now full time mom in an economy that is severely lacking and living paycheck to paycheck makes you think twice about school and I know my kids will be more active in thinking about college.
Happy Mylotting.

I have actually considered trying to go to school online... being a full time mom and having a newborn that is only 3 months it would be hard for me to get out of the house...and we are a 1 car family now ...s it is an option.
now just to figure out what classes I would be interested in....LOL

I'm actually back at school now! I just started a course today, and it might not be quite like being back at school (it's residential so I can't escape at 3.30!), but it's certainly stretching my brain.
I haven't really got feelings one way or another about my school days. I didn't hate them, but then I'm not harking back to them either. I was certainly bored with the whole thing by the time I finished school, and desperate to get out into the world.

Good timing! My kids went back to school yesterday for their first day of the 2011 year! New teachers, class rooms and class mates. Very exciting stuff indeed!
After six weeks with the kids at home, it was amazing how peaceful and quiet the house was during the day. I had forgotten the serenity of it all!
I have mixed feelings about school. It was a very awkward time for me. Bullies, girls, peer group pressure, lack of confidence, but I remember having a lot more freedom as a child than any other time of my life. I enjoyed that.
I think I enjoy now more than my school years. Being a parent and a more confident person makes a big difference from how I used to be as a child going to school.

There is s freedom about being a child that you don't realize that you have until you are older. I think that I am reverting to childhood now. I never really wanted to go back to school but I do wish that I had made more of the opportunities whilst I was there.

I actually went back to being a full time student when I was 23 to to a short six month course. It was fantastic to be learning something new. These days I wish I had stayed at school right until the end instead of leaving a couple of years early. At the time, as a 15 year old, I just wanted to start earning money. But if I had stuck it out, I could have gotten myself a high paying career doing something that was a bit more rewarding than working on cars!

I was never overly popular when i was at school. I was not that good at the subjects that i had and only had a handful of friends. I always got bored really when i was at school. This all changed when i went to college, i guess i was transformed into someone else, lol, i became the exact opposite, i learned more, concentrated more, had more friends, was a lot more popular and i wasn't shy in anyway. Now me being the person i am now i would love to go back to school, there were some good times there and when i was there i noticed how good of an athlete i was then, school brought that out of me so it has it's good points.

I have always hated people saying that school days were or should be the best of your life. I always think that either they were the bullies who made it unbearable for other people or the lucky ones who went through school easily!
I did enjoy the learning and some of the subjects but, on the whole, as much as I enjoy learning and would willingly continue my education, there is no way I would wish to relive my schooldays again!

I wouldn't say they are the happiest days but there are times when I enjoyed school. Up until primary school, I liked the school for the studies (yeah, yeah ..was a nerd)and then we moved to India for a year and I hated the routine and the pressure on academics but I made wonderful friends (who I am still in contact with). High school in Kuwait, I really enjoyed...but due to the Gulf war, I went to 3 schools in a year!)

If you ask me, there needs to be a balance. I've never been to a school which was totally laid back....but heard of a few such schools in my area (who try to cater to the students who have returned from Western countries).
The first thing that a teacher needs to instil in a student is the love for learning...make the subject interesting and then take it on from there. Regular projects are fun for the kids and they learn in the process. I do consider daily homework which burdens the student with another 2-3 hours of work after school hours is not (in my opinion) of any use.

Hi Pike,
I liked school fine enough but much to my parents despair...not for the right reasons. I guess when I was really young, I loved it but I'm talking highschool. My dad and many others in my family were teachers so you can only imagine the pressure I was under. I actually loved to go to school to skip it and have fun with my friends. I had so so much fun and I really was sad when it was all over and for that reason. Would I go back again? I don't know. I had this one daughter that was my mom's curse on me. That girl skipped so much school that she had my record beat. In fact, I think I spent more time at the school because of her than I did when I was in school myself. I didn't like it so much.

NO PIKE!!! As it was they took me ...not her...to court for her truancy. And to boot, the court tried to charge my 6000.00 for her truancy!! All that and I was missing time at work to attend the court date! You have no idea how involved I was in trying to get this girl to school. She wasn't as sneaky as I was with her skipping by any means. I didn't get caught until I'd skipped so much that many of my teachers thought I was a new student. I work nights and I was getting up and dragging her little butt to school and bringing her into the school. It was teachers who would let her go to the bathroom from class and she'd slip out instead. I had daily e-mail and phone contact with all of her teachers and had asked them to call me if she did not show up to a class. I would be right out there looking for her...I knew her hangouts and ironically and to her dismay...many of them were the same as mine were at her age. Anyway I argued in court and threatened to turn the tables. My daughter often came home high and drunk. If something happened to her after she had been signed in to their care...who is liable? The 6000.00 charges got dropped and she had to do community service and had a court order to attend school and keep her grades at a passing level. She challenged them and they bumped up the community service and supervision. She ended up with a curfew which they checked on and could not hang out with certain kids etc. It was a nightmare of a time but like most kids, she finally grew up and is an awesome person now...glad I let her live because there were times that I really didn't want to.

I got so burnt out my last semester at school that I could hardly bear the idea of going back for years and years. Now I would go as long as I could study only what I want and nothing else.

Last semester at college, and I wouldn't even have needed to be there, but the previous semester a class got canceled that I needed for graduation. Not enough students at pre-registration, and, despite the fact that enough showed up on the first day of class, it had already been canceled. So I ended up graduating later than expected, and I was just burnt out.

Great question. I think that's an inaccurate saying for many people. They weren't the best days of my life either, I much prefer how my life has been since I left school. The best days of my life so far have been going away to uni, travelling, being married and having my own family.
I wouldn't really want to go back, as I wouldn't want to repeat those times, or feel as insecure and unhappy as I felt then. Although I wouldn't mind going back for a little while just so that I could stand up to certain people, lol!
But on the other hand I think it would be a bit depressing if one's school days were the best days of their lives, because that means that once you leave school, it's all downhill from thereon!

I would like to go back to school when I was in Junior High. No middle school back then. Wheel had been invented but just barely. I was extremely shy and would love to go back and go through those days again with less shyness and perhaps more energy and a better communication and respect for my teachers.

Hi! In my case, I would like to go back to school to obtain a higher degree. Well, like most of us I guess, I don't enjoy the stress of writing papers or reviewing for exams, but for certain professions, going back to school is a must. I have been in the academe, so in a way, I am 'forced' to go to school or else it would affect my job status. Now, competition in the academe is very tight, and it is a big advantage for the employees to get a higher degree.

I would never ever want to go back to my school days. Being a bespectacled, with braces, gawkiest introvert that I was, nobody was really friends with me OR should I say I never really knew how to make friends. Even the teachers ignored me or laughed at my clumsiness or never really took me seriously in anything at all. On the home front...those were the most intimidating and rough years of my life...I’ve never shared a great relation with my parents and I feel that the seeds of that dissonance was sown during those days.
So not only my school... actually I’d never really want to go back to my childhood.

Yes my friend schooldays are best part of the life although I also have not good time in school but still I rated that time best. Those days are tension free.More reasons that I like schooldays.I like to go back in those days but its nature and that is not possible so there is a waste of time to think in that way.

I didn't like a lot of my school years either. I do miss some of the people from school and would like to communicate with them still but I wouldn't want to back to that time.
