You Can't Even Trust A Dentist These Days

My dentist couldn't believe I had seen a dentist within the last year. She asked me, "you had your regular cleaning done and they didn't mention anything about Periodontal Disease to you?" I said, "no this is the first time I hear the word." I was sooo upset to hear about this, I couldn't believe that they were paid to do their job without really doing it. If you have severe pain they prescribe drugs and refer you to another dentist. I've been to three dentist and I still have the abscess I originally went to them for. They took care of the periodontal, removed an impacted molar, gave me a root canal, but left the actual reason for my visit for last. I wonder why are they so wanting to do all the really expensive work first, perhaps my abscess wasn't so bad yet, maybe if they leave it longer it will cost me more for them to fix it. That's it, they only want your money. The more appointments they give you the more money they can get for each visit. Rather than doing all the work in one or two visits, several appointments will be better for their pockets. They could care less if you have to take out a loan just to pay them for their overly priced services. Which you'll most likely be needing again in a few years. These dentist could tell us whatever they want and since we don't know anything really about it, we take their advice and assume that they really want to save our teeth and help us, but they don't. I thought it was only in NY but I live in Fl now and it's happening here too. So I figure the next time I go to the dentist I'm going to have to do research on whatever they tell me first, then I will give them my own schedule on what I want done first. After all I'm paying them a lot of money for their services, the insurance barely covers the expensive stuff, so it should be to my specifications. Oh and I'm definitely going to tell them this little story just so they can understand where I'm coming from. Have you had any similar experiences with your dentist?
