Question for A Cop

But I just have a simple question for a story of mine.
Are badges attached to the shirt of a police officers uniform, or does the badge come off every night and get put back on in the morning?
Would it be accurate to show my character getting ready for his shift, and to show him attaching a badge to his uniform?
Or do I have it ALL wrong?? lol

HI Lily... The badges come off dear.. I have been through military training for 2 years in my school and college too. I was a sergeant and I remember taking off my badges when I returned home after the parade session... They come off easily... The cops in my area have the badges attached to their uniform... I don't know how it is in the states...
I have a suggestion... You can ask the same question to an elderly cop who has seen a lot in the service.. and he will give you complete info with dates too... E.g. the badges in 70's or 90's.. the changes etc...
