Recently I have heard a few people using the word upgradation in their presentation. I have never heard of this word until now. Is it even a proper word or a slang? I know the word upgrading, upgraded or upgrades but not aware of upgradation. Is it valid?

That's a new one for me. It's not in my dictionary either; so, I think that is one of those words that is made up on the spot. I don't know that i would ever try & use it as it doesn't seem to have a real meaning. Then again I guess you could use it any way you like as nobody can tell you that you used it improperly because they can't find out how to properly use it!!!!

That's true. Nobody can really stop you from making up your own words but still makes me cringe when I hear the word.

The only time I have heard it in use was when I was speaking with someone whose native language wasn't English. It sounds strange to me because I'm used to saying "upgrade" or "upgrading" instead. I don't see a problem with it, though. I understood what he meant just fine.

I just wonder the impression it will give when given in a formal presentation.
