I have a 6 month old black labrador, who has proved quite a handful. The latest problem is barking. He has never been a barker; however over the last week or so, he has begun barking for no apparent reason. As soon as he barks I correct him, but it doesn't seem to be helping. He is not barking at anything in particular, and it is quite annoying. Does anyone have any advice or tips, on how to stop the behaviour?

I think it is the natural behavior of dog. They like to bark on different issue. So think you should teach him a lesson on barking. You should introduce him with different thinks and tell him you should bark on this things and no need to bark on this things. I think you get result.

Hello Teresa and welcome to myLot!
Your puppy is becoming an adult, that's why he changed his behaviour.
There's not such thing as barking for no reason. Maybe you haven't realize what's his reason for barking, but he surely has one.
First try to watch him closely to determine what's the reason of his barking. Once you realize that, it will be easy for you to remove the trigger of barking.
You are already doing well if you correct him whenever he barks but make sure you are not encouraging the barking by petting or rewarding him in any way when he barks. Maybe he only barks for your attention, and speaking with him when he barks is the reward he wants.
When he starts barking, you should distract him and, as soon as he stops, you should make him do things for you like sit, stay, down and so on. Reward him for behaving well and he will eventually forget about the reason that made him bark.
He must get plenty of exercise. You must burn his energy through walking and playing, so he will have not so much energy left for barking.
I wish you good luck!
