A car salesman in Chicago came to work yesterday wearing a Packers tie. when he refused to take it off, he was fired. Now I can understand wanting to root for your team but when your work means dealing with the public not only was it wise to not wear anything with the hated rival team on it , it is more healthy! In Philly you may just get hurt! I know whenever I see a person with a Yankees gear I think , oh well we won't be Good friends. If I wanted to buy a car here in D.C. I wouldn't get it from a Cowboys' fan. I wouldn't trust him! Your thoughts.

It seems a little extreme to me to fire someone just because they happen to like the rival team over the hometown team last I checked this still is supposed to be a free country and you can like whatever team you want to like, but depending where you live it may not be a smart idea to broadcast it as you said, but I don't think that is something you should lose you job over.
I did go to a yankees and phillies game must of been about 10 years ago now back when the yankees were the best team in the league and we lost that game and some crazy philles fan probably had too much to drink and yelled something at me I guess, because I had my yankees shirt on and another yankees fan behind me said something like see you in the playoffs and this was back when the phillies were not as good as they are now, but it just shows you how crazy some fans can get, especially in that city.

I'm glad you survived. In the old Stadium , The Vet, There was a police station in the Stadium! If this was a guy wearing a Redskins or Cowboy tie in Philly , the guy wouldn't have been fired, he wuld have been sent to the hospital.

We were already friends so you being a Yankees is just a trait I can't stand but we are friends. As for a stranger? When I see they are Yankee fan, I think Just a little less on their choices, especially baseball teams. And I hope a Yankee fan wuld feel the same when they learn I'm part of Red Sox Nation. It Is a rivalry! For example , I love the Redskins ans my ,mom loved the Cowboys. did I still live her, yes! But I though she had bad taste in football teams.

I think we all got equel rights to like or dislike someone. This incident was not a good example for sure, I support a team or like a team but that does not mean I hate others or I should just love only my team. It's all about choice.
If there was any policy and that guy voilated the policy than it was ok but otherwise it was a cruel act from teh company.
Being at his place I would file a case against company for sure. This is insult.
Thank you for sharing.

I'm with management because I am a die hard fan and I Wouldn't have complained about the tie , I would have just walked out. I am not a Bears fan but a Redskins fan. And if I were to walk in a see a man wearing a Cowboys tie , I would walk out.and in return I will never go to Dallas because I Know I won't be welcome.Don't get me wrong , I Know they are good people in Dallas , they just root for the wrong team. And I would be in enemy territory.I see the removal of the tie as a safety measure. I know in Philly there would have been a fight.

Everyone got their own choice and you too have your own choice but punishment should not be like this. They could simply ask the guy not to come office with thaat tie. Why should he lose his job just for some team support. I am sure that guy must be hating other teams after this incident.
I never knew that it would become such a big issue .

I read about this. The guy thought that his boss was just joking and it really surprised him when he found out he was serious. I would have thought the same thing. I think that this is discrimination and it is just ridiculous that he got fired for something so petty. I don't even like football and I can't understand how some people could find it this important.

How can I explain? To us die hard fans our teams are like family. You know how you loathe Anyone who dislikes your family member?Well that's how us fans feel about our football rivals. So the boss was scared that he would lose business because of the local hatred of the Packers! To a non football fan it seems petty but to a die hard Bears' fan , it makes sense. I am not a Bears' fan but I can totally understand. I hate, Hate the Cowboys . If I were to walk in to a shop anywhere outside of Dallas and there was Cowboy stuff all around, I would turn around and leave. Obviously they don't want or need my business!

I think that there should be some consideration when one is at work as to what they represent. I think that having a favorite team is great but if you are running a business that caters to a wide range of customers...you can just about bank on losing some of them over something like that. People are very passionate about their teams..lol..

I think it was wrong for this salesmaen to get fired for having a Packer tie on in Bears country! We have rights to cheer for our team and wear a tie or what ever clothing we want! I don't you can fire a person for this! If not this Packer fan better sue! This is not right!

I think he is lucky it was in Chicago. In Philly if he hadn't been fired or at least taken off the tie, he would have waken up in the hospital!I think the boss should have said this, I Know you love the Pack but Others who come in here may be offended so take it off or stay home for the day.

On one hand, I think it's wrong that this person had to get fired for just wearing a tie that showed a different affiliation, and that he had to lose his source of income for that.
But...
I like hearing stories about how fanatic some sports fans are...

Then you will love this story, I will Never, ever go to Dallas. Why? It is the home of the Cowboys , the enemy of my Redskins. I know the people ate nice and not everyone is into football. It isn't them, It's me. I wouldn't be kind.
