I am a brand name shopper. I have tried off brand and don't like them. Once I had a store brand of mushroom soup and a Campbells can of soup and when I opened them the Campbells was a much nicer color. That is one reason I prefer brand name. I never buy any brand but Jello because I have noticed that if it is not ate up right away and sets the store brands turn waterie faster then the jello brand. I am real picky on my pizza sauce and will ONLY buy Contindina. I have had store brands and some of them are extremely salty. Pineapple a lot of the off brands will be cut closer to the core and have 'the eyes' still in it. On vegetables, canned, green beans will have 'stems' in them. I only buy frozen, but off brand that i got at Save a lot, taste like field corn. Cream Cheese I only buy Philadelphia, I make frosting and have noticed that the store brands don't stiffen or hold up as well. But when it comes to stick margarine, I only buy ONE store brand and that is Spartan, have to go to a Spartan store to get it, but there is something about water and oil content and depending how it's blended it can make a big difference in how the baked product comes out, Great Value is awful, sorry, but so is the Imperial.
I didn't look to see where you are from but here in Michigan I have noticed that WalMart prices are higher on a lot of stuff and I have been shopping more at Meijers, but I think they are only in Mi, IN, OH and maybe IL and KY. My daughter and I were in WalMart and I was getting Oscar Meyer turkey and they were out of the flavor I wanted so I had to get Hillshire Farms and the sales lady asked me if it would be ok and I told her it would have to be or I'd have to go to Meijers and she said I wouldn't get it for $3 at Meijers and I agreed...its $2.99...I shop there all the time! So my advice is to check around every once in awhile. Very nice topic!

thank u for your reply, i am from ky, we do have a meijiers, but it is not in my city it is about 30 min away from me.. we have a sav a lot too. alot of people shop here at kroger and i dont know why the big craze when our wal mart is cheaper.
espically on pepsi products and the kroger hamburger will not last as long as the wal mart brand...no matter what kind i buy kroger hsmburger ruins quicker...
like u, there are a few things we just have to have the brand name on like the bread
light bread.. and soaps, and toilet tissue we only use charmin... i have noticed that some butter are made out of alot of water and when i tryed to pour it over my popcorn it was mostly water ... i buy imperial or what ever is on sale i may have to change that too.. find a better brand... we only buy heinz ketchup...
and i like oscar meyer deli bologna but there is some great value that i think is ok. and we go with that.. i use the cheap sun washing powders and they work great on stains...
i guess everyone has there own way of buying gorcerys...and its a personal choice
or what ever you can afford...

Hi. laken02. Most of my food items are name branded. I do enjoy buying Kraft, Oscar Meyer, Stouffer's, Weight Watcher's Lean Cuisine, Uncle Ben's, Lipton Knorr and many other name brand food related items too. I do love the Great Value brand, the foods taste just as good as the actual name brand too. It is not really so much of a big difference either. I have bought cinnamon french toast sticks in the Great Value brand, and it was very delicious.

I don't generally go after a certain brand name in foods. i just choose what looks good and appealing to me. I don't like to buy foods just because of a name. the flavor and taste is what are important to me.

No, not really. I mean with some things, such as Diet Coke instead of Pepsi etc., but in general I go for what looks good and is reasonably priced.

I usually buy store brands, but there are exceptions. Sometimes if it's only a few cents more for the brand name i go for it. Last time I was at Wal-Mart the difference between Great Value pickles and Vlasic pickles was only 2 cents.
Great Value is generally pretty decent. But I don't like their cinnamon rolls or their ginger snaps. I don't buy those things often but when I do I go for the brand name.

I do like lucerene cheese it is only at safeway it is their store brand. I like that brand of milk also. Certain things I will buy a certain brand and other things I buy what is cheapest. I have tried the great value brand and I get canned fruits and veggies they are fine and cheaper. I have a home daycare and in the winter I go through a lot of canned fruit as its taste is better and they make a no sugar added one. I also like the great value frozen veggies they have a very good taste I prefer them to even some name brands. I just wish they would keep a better stock of them at my local walmart. I shop at walmart, sam's club and safeway on a regular basis they all have something that the others do not. Like there is a squeeze pizza sauce that I can only find at safeway so I get it there. But they only carry the crutons that I like at walmart and with a daycare it is worth getting somethings in bulk so I go to sams which I buy the store brand of baby wipes from there and I like them better than the name brand ones or the walmart store brand ones. I will not buy Kraft shreadded cheese as years ago every other bag I got would mold before I opened it. That was a lot of years ago and I just won't go back.
