Well, today is the day, early this morning, the Nominees for the Academy Awards for the films of 2010 came out. They weren't the most surprising, with movies like The King's Speech, Inception, 127 Hours, True Grit, Black Swan, The Social Network, The Kids Are Alright, Winter's Bone, The Fighter, and others, are up for big nominations.
Have you had any big surprises, or hopes for who will win and who won't?
I'm really hoping that Arnonofsky wins for Best Director and Best Cinematography, as well as Natalie Portman for Best Actress for Black Swan. For Screenplays, I'm hoping for The Social Network and The Kids are Alright. Inception I hope wins in Art Direction, Visual effects and Sound, and True Grit wins for costumes.
The King's Speech is up for loads of Oscars, and I haven't seen it yet, but it doesn't look like the kind of movie for me, so I don't have it as a high hope for any of the awards. I'll have to see it in the next couple weeks, and maybe my opinion will change around. We'll see! I can't wait to see the Oscars!

So far, the only movie I've seen out of the nominated movies is The King's Speech. Inception is on our Netflix list, but there are a few movies ahead of it before we get that one. So, I can't say if any other movie is better. All I can say is, I loved The King's Speech and would be thrilled with a win. Or, I'd be satisfied with Best Actor for Colin Firth and Best Supporting Actor for Geoffrey Rush, even if it didn't win Best Picture.
None of the other movies interest me.

Thats funny, because The King's Speech is the only one that hasn't been interesting me! Gotta see it, though... the plot just seems kind of... mundane...

I can understand that. I'm the type of person who thinks almost anything can be interesting. Although, I admit, there are some things that I find dull no matter how it's told. And, yeah, on the surface, "Guy goes to speech therapist to overcome stutter" does sound like it could be boring. I look at it as "Guy triumphs over adversity." I like those types of movies. Even when the adversity is having a stutter when your life involves a lot of public speaking. And, I've always been interested in royalty, so that's another plus for me.
