Look what's happening at Taco Bell

I have a Taco Bell just across the street from the apartment complex where I live. We eat there occasionally. I don't really like their meat and think it tastes like dog food smells. Ugh! The kids like it so we eat there occasionally. I have often made comment about how weird I think their 'beef' is. Well, my thoughts are finally being realized. Here is the link about the lawsuit:

I stopped eating at Taco Bell about 18 months ago when I got real sick afterwards. I really just stopped liking it because everything tastes the same. You can order anything you want and it all tastes exactly the same! And I'm not surprised at the law suit that's been filed, and i hope they are checking other fast food restaraunts too!

Could very well be GG! It says in the article what they found in it.

What the crap is "GG"? I just know they said it was only about 35% beef and the rest was basically filler like whey and corn solids or something weird. I just know the last (notice i said "last" - bc it was my very last) time I ate there I got sick and I've never gone back.

CE-
The family gave up all fast food officially back on January 12th and we haven't been happier. We did used to do a lot of Taco Bell and that article explains why each time I ate it my IBS flared up! I hope that they win the law suit because the use if silicone is insane!
It's amazing that we have all of these laws in this country and yet we can't even protect our own food supply.

I almost never eat fast food, and for the last month we have not eaten out anywhere that I can think of. I guess you could count the Hebrew National Hot Dog at Sam's. We drive quite a ways to shop at Sam's and we almost always want to eat out when we do. I have to put my foot down hard. I think we would all feel better if we gave up that fast food and most restaurant food of all kinds. Our pocket books certainly would. I think you are doing well with that change.

Hi Anora--It's because of big business and dollar signs.

It will be interesting if it goes to trial and we get to find out if the allegations of the lawsuit are true..

Oh, I believe the allegations are true. The stuff tastes like dog food and is all grisally and all. Ugh! It is even worse that McDonald's and their fillers.

thats a real shame. you know years ago when it first started it was really good. then about 6 yrs ago, it started tasting funny to me. the elderly lady i worked for loved it so much in '05, she would have me go get her some and buy me whatever i wanted to. anyway, ive often wondered if thats why i started getting the H-pylori in my stomach about then. maybe i should sue them but its been a long time back now so to bad i didnt realize it then

Could very well be. I remember when the change came along. Their food used to have cilantro in it and had a good flavor. Now it is dog food.

Oh no . . . well, I won't read that link because I don't want to get scared - ha ha. I actually do like their meat - I don't know why. They used to have Taco on a Bun - which was literally their taco stuff on a bun. For some reason I crave that taste - of the taco "meat" - more than any other fast food "meat" - and I don't know why. Or maybe I should read that link, perhaps gross out, and put an end to this craving - ha ha!

Well, enjoy! I think what you actually enjy about the 'meat' is the seasoning. If you chew it really good you will chew the grissle and that aint meat! And it has silicone in it! Not good!

I have just found that the texture is weird. This would explain why it is so inexpensive as compared to some other sources.

Gerty-
I saw an article a few months back on China's fight against the "fake" food industry which is occurring over there on the black market, and it kills me that we have it here on the legal market!

Yep!The texture is weird. And it is surprising to me that no one even seems to notice. Cheap and large portions. That speaks louder.

Hate to tell ya but Del Taco isn't much better. I ate there once and it wasn't that great. I guess after making your own nothing tastes as good anymore. I really like actual hamburger too. Not mystery meat.

Yes, I like their beans and their rice. Veggies are expensive aren't they?

Wow that is a scary thought, and what the heck is an "anti-dusting agent?" I used to work at a competitor for Taco Bell that is no longer in existence. I can honestly say that everything there was very fresh and good quality, but I can tell you that we did add oats to the ground beef I guess to extend it. When you cooked up the meat the oats would just blend in and you would never know they were in there. I don't think that is so bad because oats are good for you and did make the meat less fatty. Other than than that though it was ground beef. I am sure that a lot of fast food places use fillers, but the ones that Taco Bell are using do not sound so great at all.

That is probably why this competitor that is no longer in business is no longer around. They actually used the real thing. Yes, the anti-dusting agent and the silicone and such is very questionable and don't want questionable items in my body.

Hi. celticeagle. I love eating at Taco Bell and I have not tasted their version of lean beef. It would not matter to me anyway. I would just eat it if it tasted good. If it did not, then nope, I would not bother with eating from here again. I have to try eating from taco bell again to see if I will like their lean beef taste.

This is how many folks feel whether is has weird stuff in it or not. So you eat chicken when you eat there?

My husband and I are becoming more fast food causious. WE have to take a road trip to Texas about 20 hour trip so we take turkey, chicken and ham for sandwiches, healthy snacks, yogurt, fruit, and I eat craisens (different flavors) and take juices with us.
When we eat our evening meal instead of driving through fast food we try to find a familiar restaurant to eat in such as Golden Corral and eat a balanced meal with salad.
We will be gone a week so you can imagine all we have to take.
My hubby is not as healthy eating person as me, and he has diabetes. So its up to me to lead the force in keeping him out of all the fast food restaurants LOL
He just won't eat a small portion that is right for him so his sugar goes up and then he yells because he knew he did it to himself.
I just look at him shake my head and say OH WELL!

I wish I didn't do as much fast food. In the summer we eat alot more healthy. Winter is something completely different. And I am still going to try to keep Taco Bell off the menu. Ugh! It tastes like dog food to me.

I never liked Taco Bell. I remember craving for Mexican Food last week and I thought Taco Bell would appease my cravings. But the moment I dug into my food, I regretted my decision to eat there. I have had Mexican food before, but not that bad. To think it was expensive. I could have eaten somewhere else for the same amount and would have enjoyed my food.

I never liked it either. I loved it when we had a Taco John's in the area and now they are gone. Loved their enchiladas when they were made from scratch. I see people going through the drive thru all day and wonder what they are eating and why. I love mexican food but not there. They used to be sort of good back when they first opened and actually put cilantro in their food. Not any more.

That's why I just get stuff made with beans or on the rare occasion, chicken. I never have their beef either. When my neighbor butchered a cow, my family got part of it. So I know what real beef tastes and looks like. Most of the stuff in stores is dyed at the least and probably worse. That's why we had mad cow disease, people feeding their cows brains instead of grain. I like knowing where my meat comes from. So it's just the beans, from now on, for me.

Before I make any conclusions I am going to wait until the law suit is settled. If TB is found lying I will boycott the place and tell everyone why. But I've seen both sides of a law suit. I resent people who sue just because they can try: such as, they don't like the bill. I am in the middle of a lawsuit against a company I worked for who refused to pay overtime. But I don't lay any bets on justice.

I heard about this story first this morning on the radio. I wasn't surprised to hear the questions that have been posed about taco bell's ingredients, what shocked me is that so many people seem surprised. I mean really people, did you think it was high quality beef? Does it taste like the ground chuck you buy at the market? No it doesn't. Why do you think it's so cheap? And seriously people, if you liked taco bell before, what difference does it make if they use fillers to save a couple bucks? So much of our food (especially in fast food restaurants) contains fillers, byproducts, and preservatives... and god knows what else. I guess I just don't see what the big deal is.

Really. I have commented on it many times. I think the reason it is so popular is that it is sold cheaper so more cheap skates eat it. What I don't understand is why McD's hasn't been taken to court too. Their meat is so full of fillers too. Not as bad as TB but nearly. And they have been around alot longer.
