buffon wants come back to national team

Unlike outfield players, goalkeepers have a longer shelf-life. And coupled with the fact that he is the best goalkeeper for italy now, he return to the national squad is a boost to them. However, he must first show he still have what it takes to perform at the highest level. Else, getting in the national squad based on reputation alone wont do anyone any good.

Buffon should come back and join the italian team

I think he has been one of the standout performers over the last decade. But now with age catching up with him, I am not sure how agile he is. I think his coming back to the side would depend on it. Of course, goalkeepers are known for the longevity in the game and Buffon can continue as long as he has the game. Cheers! Ram

If you ask me, there is no better Italian goalkeeper than Buffon. And if he can be called up for the national team, the coach has to call him, because there is no better option than him. We know how important is the defense for Italian teams and a great goalie is the base of the defense. If I were Prandelli, I wouldn't hesitate at all and I would call Gigi Buffon for the national team and he would be my number 1.

There aren't any italian goalkeepers that are better than Gigi, I think he will get back the 1 in no time, oncew he fully recovers. I don't know who is the current goalkeeper but it must be Marchetti, Abbiati or Storari, anyway none of those three have Buffon's quality. Forza Gigi!

After a year or two when Inter's Castellazzi has gathered enough experience he'll possibly be a better GK than Buffon ever was, but for now Buffon is the best option for the Italian team.

That would be great for Italy, he's an amazing keeper. He would have to earn his place, don't think he'd come out of retirement and just start playing. And I don't entirely believe he's unretiring...do you have a source?
