i wanna make discussion about the top five goalkeepers which play from period 2000-2010...
for me the top five is began from :
1. Gianluigi Buffon... The number one of Italy and Juventus is great goalkeepers for me and deserve to be number one in my opinions here...
2. Iker Casillas, the spain captain had proved he is one of the best goalkeepers...the world cup 2010 and european cup 2008 is his guarantee..
3. Oliver Kahn...The sensational performance from the german and bayern munchen goalkeepers is always reminds us...unfortunatelly, he is retired now....
4. Julio Cesar...Goalkeepers from Brazil will be number one in inter get his golden era last year....he give the treble winner for inter...even he is failed bring a happy for brazil...
5. Petr Cech...His first year in Chelsea and give a happy for Chelsea...even he is not superior in his country...

about a goal keeping...
hmm.. i think on 2000 -2010.. it should be Peter Smeichel or Francesco Toldo.
Buffon is also good at those days. Julio Cesar not so good.
but average point it should be 1) Oliver Kahn 2)Buffon 3) Van der saar 4) Iker Casillas 5) Maarten Steklunbuurg.
quite contradiction aren't i?

You have made a very good discussion here and I agree with your top 5 goalkeepers. Although I considered Oliver Kahn always the best goalkeeper in the world, because he was capable to keep out balls which seemed impossible to be saved. I would choose him as the best goalkeeper, and maybe I picked him because he was and still is the symbol of Bayern Munchen, nobody will be like him anymore. He made some mistakes which were fatal for the team, but the spirit and the leadership which he had was fantastic, I haven't seen any other player in the world who was so dedicated to his team as Oliver was for Bayern and Germany.
The other four goalies are fantastic as well, but Edwin van der Saar would deserve a place in here, because he was fantastic during his whole career. And there are many other great keepers like Chilavert from Paraguay, who scored many goals as well.

Sorry, but I cannot be objective 100% when it comes to Oliver Kahn and Bayern Munchen. He was the greatest player which I have seen playing, he marked my childhood and I cried when he retired. For me, he is the personification of the Bayern feeling and that is why he will be the greatest in my eyes.

My choice would be
1) Oliver Kahn. To me, he is the reason why Germany reached the final of the 2002 World Cup. I have watched some of the saves he made while playing for Bayern Munich and some of them is real world class.
2) Iker Casillas. The list wont be completed without him.
3) Gianluigi Buffon. The italy are famed for their defensive ability. But without him between the post, Italy might not have won the 2006 World Cup. Had Juventus not been rocked by the bribery scandals, Buffon's record wont be tarnished.
4) Van De Saar. He might not won the biggest trophy but he is among the best there is. A no frill goalkeeper whose value to the team wont be felt until he is gone.
5) Jens Lehmann. I know many people will have objection to him being in the list. He is an eccentric goalkeeper and is just a mistake away. But all in all, he is a very good goalkeeper. Who can forget the clean sheet records he set while Arsenal march into the final of the Champions League.

I mostly agree with your list, the only change I would add is removing Julio Cesar of the list. He is a good goalkeeper but if we take into account the whole decade, its fair to say that he only started shining in the past two year. Instead of Julio cesar, I would definately add Van der saar, who shined the whole decade and he still does it. You should also consider Dida as he shined in A.C. Milan.

1. Gianluigi Buffon - The Italian world cup winner is the best and is also know as Superman.
2. Iker Casillas - The world cup winning Spanish goalkeeper who is the captain for both the Spanish side and Real Madrid.
3. Oliver Khan - The former German Keeper famous for his heroics at the 2002 World Cup in which they reached the finals.
4. Edwin Van Der Sar - The Dutch Goalkeeper who plays for Manchester United.
5. Victor Valdes - The Spanish Goalkeeper who plays for FC Barcelona.

petr schmeichel get his golden era in under 2000...if we want to list petr schmeichel, he is one of top keeper in 1990-2000..
i dont understand why you list pepe reina?? what is his contribution for his national team?
he is good but for spain, he can not replace iker casillas position,,,,

I would generally agree with your list. I would only replace Cech with Van Der Saar because since the horrific head injury Cech is not the same goalkeeper. The other notable mentions in this list would be the Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina both of whom are probably bit unlucky be in the same time as Iker Cassilas.
Cheers!

Well, Im all the way with Buffon, Khan, and Cech!
Personally, I prefer Cech from those three as I follow Chelsea a lot! (They are not doing good this Premier League season)
