Actually sometimes it's happened that ...Discussion starter start a discussion but don't comment in response and forget to rate the response ...
secondly it may also happened that your response doesn't satisfy discussion starter..

These two pages explain the MyLot Reputation and the Discussion Rating System:
http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq11.aspx
http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx
Your MyLot Reputation depends entirely on the ratings of other members.
Note especially the recommendations at the bottom of the second page. Make sure that you have read and understood the Guidelines and that you always give of your very best - be descriptive, relevant and original; never respond to a discussion unless you have something useful to say; always 'maintain' your own discussions by adding good quality comments to the responses you get.
You will find that while you still have relatively few posts, your rating star can go up and down significantly; as your User Rating increases, it will tend to settle down to a more stable number.

Well, reputation around here is based on quality and quantity when responding back and starting New discussions such as this. When starting a New discussion always make sure that it is a topic of interest that others are interested in responding back too, and when posting back in others discussions try and keep to the topic at hand, check your spelling if you can, and also post back with at least 4 lines of topic as well. You are still a newer member and a lot of times the newer members start out with lower reps and move up as time goes on. Do not let it discourage you. Enjoy your time being here and have Fun.

As you said, reputation depends on quality and quantity, I am a newbie here and I probably have a long way to go. Fortunately, I have already promoted two levels since I first reached the 100 posts line. I am enjoy my time here and wish you the same too~~

Hi Marmot
What i would like to advise is that you should not worry too much about your reputation. You should enjoy your time here in Mylot. Here are some guidelines, which can really help you in getting good reputation. When you respond, dont restrict your replies to one-liners, make sure you respond with more detailed replies, should be minimum 4-5 lines. The thing is when you start a discussion and you get replies, mark each and every replies and then be courteous to reply back. And dont take part in any controversial discussions.

hi marmot our reputations comes from other mylotter friends rating u s either positive or minus. I am afraid a lot of people here aree a tad lazy
and maybe rate one or two pages when mylot admins asks us to please rate each other as they say it helps yourself and all mylotters to r ate each person you come in contact with here and rate all their pages.mylot admins does not do this so we have to rate each other to bring all our reputations up, so marmot rate as you go along and tell your friends to also rate as we help all our reputations to rise by
doing the ratings.

Yeah, I think that is a problem for many mylotters, we pay more attention on the discussion and comments, I think there are many mylotters even have no idea about the "+" and "-". Thank you for your advise and I will keep trying~ Actually, I started this discussion when my rating was 5, now I am 7. And I am sill trying to get a 9 or 10~~

I think your reputation is not bad, you reach still 100 and your reputation is 5 that is normal, dont worry keep it up and your reputation becomes higher and higher, give quality response and discuss further to comments, my reputation is still 6, i also try this.

Well it takes time for your reputation to go up. Just ignore that and after a while you will see that going up gradually. I see many gets too conscious about that but I am a long time member of this site and I think my star rating has remained between 8 and 9 and so far I am happy with that.

Yeah, actually I don't care much about that. I am here just to talk. But since I saw there are so many people have a 8 to 10 reputation, I was wondering if I did something wrong. But now I understand that I haven't. It just takes time to get a higher reputation. So, I will keep trying and I think I will get a higher reputation sooner or later~~

The more you get positive rating for your discussion and post the higher star rating you get..Mylot didn't disclose how star rating works but I guess, for higher star rating,it all depend on other user..if they rate our post/discussion as positive we will get higher reputation.our rating goes down if we rate discussion or post as negative and number of positive rating for that discussion or post are greater than negative.
