How reliable Is Google Translate?

I'd been a fan of Google Translate, when I need to know a meaning of a word in other language. It always comes in handy specially if I am dealing with uncommon words. But then I soon found out that you need to double check the translation it gives because there are words that have to meanings, and you might get only one in Google translate and that one may be not the meaning you wanted to know or use. I don't know if you can relate to my example; but if you speak Filipino then you can... I look for the meaning of a Filipino word "napaso" or "got burned" I was hoping for a light definition or synonyms of "got burned". But instead of having "got burned" or "burned", I got, "expired". Well the word "napaso" in Filipino can also mean "expired" in English, but that's not what I am looking for. Well I guess we need to double check the translation ourselves. Thanks!
