The betelgeuse dwarf star in space is very close to a supernova. If this star explodes it could very well effect life on earth. If it does explode it is said that it will give off so much light it could be considered a secound sun. The light could eliminate night on earth. This is scary stuff.
I cant paste yet so go to google and search Betelgeuse supernova

Depending on where you read the news, it is a big over-hype. It may be true that Betelguese is close to supernova. It is NOT true that it is at all likely to happen this year, next year or, indeed, around December next year (specifically). Supernova is expected to happen, however, within the next million years.
It is also NOT true that it will have any bad effect on the Earth. The star is just too far away for it to be of any danger to us. We may have a very bright object in the sky for a few weeks - bright enough to be comparable to the Sun - but the difference is that we are very close to the Sun whereas light from Betelguese takes over 700 years to reach us (it may already have supernovaed, in fact).
