I am almost done reading "Hearts In Atlantis" by King and have "Gerald's Game" to read next. I have looked up reviews of this book online and I am getting mixed messages. I like reading suspense novels such as James Patterson and Clive Cussler, but I do not like really scary books. Has anyone read this book? If so, what are you thoughts on it and can someone who hates horror read this book and not be totally freaked out?

I see this discussion is a year old, so you have most likely read the book by now. I read this book about 20 years ago, when it was still fairly new. I found it very creepy. Of course, Stephen King wrote it, so what did I expect? I didn't enjoy it as much as some of his other books. The "companion" book to this (there is a kind of parallel event in both books) is Dolores Claiborne, which I liked much better and have read several times.
I can't quite put my finger on what I didn't enjoy about it. It gave me a similar vibe as reading The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. Maybe I just found the suspense of not knowing what the "threat" was in both books too nerve-wracking.
