Personally I love mayonnaise. It is all a matter of taste and preference though. Some people just can't stand it. My husband would be one of those people. He will not eat anything with mayonnaise on it. But it is great to help make sandwiches moist, to add to salad dressings, to make up a quick honey mustard sauce, etc. Many times I prepare meals where mayonnaise is an ingredient and my husband never knows about it.
I use mayonnaise on my hamburgers, bacon lettuce and tomato sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, potato salad, etc. It would not be the same for any of those items without it.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Oh goodness, I will have to look into finding some recipes with mayo in it. I would love to give it a test run, and see if my husband notices. How I could have forgotten about using mayo on my hamburgers is beyond me. It makes it so much better!

I like the taste of mayo! It's a condiment, so it's not like I eat a bowl of it . . . but it's good for keeping bread moist like on sandwiches or for potato salad. I like mayo mixed with salad dressing as a condiment too. I will say I made a chocolate cake once - and it called for gobs of mayo - and although it did make an extremely moist cake, I couldn't eat it. I got grossed out (I guess I couldn't see mayo and chocolate cake together). But other than that, yes, I love mayo! I will say, I do not like the taste of low fat or fat free type mayo or any other mayo substitute (except for Vegenaise, that is the BEST substitute I have ever found).

oh yuk..I don't think I could eat mayo with chocolate cake either ! I eat it on my sandwiches unless I am having bologna, then I put mustard. Like you I think it keeps the bread moist. Of course I like potato salad, devil eggs, and my tuna fish. I don't eat mayo all the time just in particular items , and when it's good , it is GOOD !

I like mayo but it has to be the real mayo!! I can not stand Miracle Whip that is so nasty!!! I like it and my husband likes it the thing I can not stand is Ketchup! I hate the smell and taste of it!! I would rather eat fries with mustard or hot sauce!!

I do not like miracle whip either, the only one I will eat is the REGULAR kraft mayo. Thats surprising about the ketchup, but I do like my fries with honey mustard or even hot sauce .

Hi. sunshine37. I wonder the same thing. I have to have mayo on my bread. Without it, the bread would taste so plain and dry. The mayo brings the flavor out of the sandwich. I know many people that don't like mayo. I never can see how they can eat a sandwich without mayo. I have to have mayo on any sandwich where I may eat sandwich meat on. I have eaten a sandwich without meat a couple of times before, and it seems hard to swallow.

The only sandwich I do not put mayo on is my bologna sandwich, but I put mustard on it. So I do believe that sandwiches are just too dry without something, and personally could not eat one without something to keep it moist. I have to say I have never tried a sandwich without any meat on it, unless it was just peanut butter.

Hi sunshine and welcome to mylot!
I like mayo and I thought that most people liked it until I read your post. I use bought mayo many times but I also make my own mayo when I need a lot (as for a barbecue) because homemade mayo is better and cheaper. And for very special occations I make it the way I was taught when I was young( just the yolk and beaten with a fork while I added the oil drop by drop).
Maybe your husband does not like oily things. I prefer to add less mayo to the potato salads than other people do. I want it to taste potato and not mayo with potato. Same with coleslaw. Ask him: maybe he can tell you his reasons.

Probably that mayo had salmonella. Mayo is difficult to keep on hot days. The toxins from salmonella can make you feel awful.
As for asking, I had a good marriage for almost 40 years and an important part of it was that we asked what we did not know. We are always learning, not only about our spouses but about ourselves too.
Take care!

I am so sorry I am just now responding, I did not realize I had other replys; I never, ever thought about making my own mayo, and I bet it is cheaper. My family I think would die if I made my own.
And I did ask my husband, and found out that his father ( rest his soul ) use to go the small town store when they would work on the farm all day, and order them a ham sandwich with mayo once or twice a week. Well one time it was real hot, and he ate the sandwich and got sick from it.
He said ever since then, the smell and sight of it turns his stomach. If I had known that I might have been a bit more thoughtful about it, because I have joked with him all these years, and would even go in front of him and take a bite. ( we joke around a lot with each other like that ). I will not be doing that anymore, and why he didn't ever tell me is beyond me, along with me not ever thinking about asking why. I just assumed it was one of those things. But hey, its nice to be able still learn things about your spouse after 13 yrs. Thanks for the thought

Even though my husband HATES mayo with a passion he does order my food with mayo or makes sure I have packs of it if needed. I can't help but giggle when he does order it, because he will get this look on his face like "yuk". However, even though he does not like mayo like I do , I still gotta love him...he is the best !

I can have mayonnaise on my sandwiches but only a little and spread them all through out the bread. Yes, I agree that there are people who also uses mayo as a dip and they even licked their finger with it. I like mayo when it is added with pickles so there would be some tinge of sourness in it.

You know, I had never thought about that mayo being mixed with pickles and it giving it that ting of sourness, that I taste on hamburgers.Okay, and I could never lick mayo off the finger. I don't' like it that much lol. It is truly a personal preference ! Btw, I have never had any type of mayo dip, not sure I would care for that, but I will never know until I try it.

oh goodness my family hates when I make egg salad, devil eggs or Tuna, but I just laugh and tell them if they don't like it, to go on else where so I can eat in peace without all the "yuks" lol.

This is my first time to hear someone who can't stand the sight of mayonnaise. I know people who avoid mayonnaise because of its cholesterol content but not anyone who do not really like it not even the sight of it. In fact I like mayonnaise a lot especially in my sandwich. I am fond of egg mayonnaise sandwich, also chicken or tuna sandwich with mayonnaise. I also like mayonnaise in my vegetable, macaroni or potato salad. I believe without mayonnaise they can't be tasty enough.

Welcome to mylot. I really don't like mayonnaise. I don't like mustard either for that matter. But I use ketchup on practically everything - especially burgers and most sandwiches. I don't like eggs and I know there are eggs in mayonnaise so maybe that's why I don't like it.

I like mustard but like mayo, only on certain things. I can eat mustard with my fries and always on my hamburgers. Ketchup..love it. Don't get sick like many do, but I like ketchup on left over mac n cheese.

I like it very much, but i try not to eat it to much cause it is full with fat and has a lot of calories..
I think it is strange that you don't know people that like it, i know a lot of people that can't live without it.. :)
I was sure it was the second best, after Ketchup..

I don't think I eat enough to really hurt me as far as the fat goes. Perhaps my ham sandwiches twice a week is the most I have. My devil eggs and tuna fish I have about once a month. The only person that I know likes it is my father. He is the one that got me to try it. Matter of fact, I use to be one of those people that would snarl my lips up at it like my husband and girls do. My sister doesn't even like it too much, but she will eat it, if it is in a recipe.

i do like mayo. in fact i honestly don't know the general opinion towards mayonaisse. i know that i like to eat it once in a while, on egg salad and sandwiches. i don't eat it too often, i don't like it as much as ketchup, but it's still good.

There is no doubt, I love ketchup much more than mayo. There is only particular things I will eat with mayo. It was actually my husband hatred towards mayo that sparked the idea of asking. I wanted to know if anyone else hated it as much as he did. Come to find out, he has good reason for hating it so much.
