Do you believe in a end of the world scenario? If so when?

Ran across the news stories about the fish and bird die offs and was surprised at how many people are ready to jump on the band wagon and say it is a sign of the end of the world. Now I know every religion around the world has some end of the world ideas from the viking Gods and Ragnarok to Hindu, Judaic/Christian beliefs. So how likely is it that we have reached the point in man kinds technology that we might accidentally or on purpose wipe ourselves out of existence or maybe a natural occurrence might? Or do we have to event monsters to be afraid of because we are too afraid to face the monsters inside of us?

2012. It's not all just of what secular people call "religious crap". There have been many purely scientific scenarios involving 2012 too. Take a look at this website, for example: http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Scientific-Proof-of-2012 ... There was another page, much more in depth, but I can't seem to find it :/ If I rediscover it, I'll post it on here too. Of course, on the other side of things, there are also websites that *refute* these scientific claims too........

Yes, I'm pretty convinced that SOMETHING is going to happen. I, by no means (well... probably not anyways...), think the world is going to "end", but I do think that at least *something* will happen. I mean, like I said, the sun's effects are supposed to hit us extra hard that year. Anyways, http://www.mondovista.com/endtime22x.html. YES!! I've found it xP

The world is gonna end but not anny time soon. Nothing can possibly make the world as we know it end abruptly. The Earth will go through some changes and if humans arent able to adapt our society will become extinct. But this will happy in the very far future.

I think it is very likely that we are fast approaching the end. Just because a thing is prophesied doesn't mean it's going to be mystical or hard to understand. We are doing it to ourselves and I believe that God knew that we would. We might invent monsters, but the "monsters inside of us" hide behind humanism and religion both.

I have discussed this before about prophecy and how it might apply to modern technology instead of something mystical.

I thought the end of the world was supposed to be at Y2K. I'm still here. How about all of you?? Mankind's technology is not at the point all life will be destroyed on Earth. Knowledge does exist that could be discovered that would make this possible. Hopefully, mankind will have grown enough at which point they will be able to handle it. What we have today test us before we get to the real dangerous stuff. So relax, It's all going to be ok.

That is what people in Pompeii thought nearly 2000 years ago also. But in reality if its gonna happen not much you can do. As for present day knowledge we have cobalt bombs, hydron colliders, etc. One nut job in the right place could do a lot of damage.

Maybe the prophecies are meant as a warning to modern technology and things happening instead of will happen.

No, I don't believe in the end of the world scenario. The only reason why people are saying that it happens in 2012 is b/c the Mayan calendar ended in 2012, but it's not because it's the end of the world, it's because it's the end of the cycle. The Mayans were just saying that the cycle is over and it's just starting over now.

There are also a couple of other things going on also at that time one of them being the sun reversing its polarity at the same exact time and the sun hasn't blocked out as much solar dust as it used to so what might happen at that time. But really if we are going to get fried with solar dust not much we can do about it and I am sure the government wouldn't bother telling us.

I would not be surprised if there will be an end to the world we know now. I do not base my beliefs off any religion in particular and I do not feel there will be a wrath of any sort. However, I do think we has human beings are at a point where we are overindulgent on our worlds resources and I certainly can imagine the end of oil. The end of oil would change the world we know drastically.
I am in no way a crazy out in the world getting my shelter ready and having a survival bag packed, but I do think about it on occasion and talk with my partner about how we would try to protect our family through a major crisis like this.

I sometimes wonder if maybe this hasn't already happened at one time in humanities past already.

I don't think there is the end of the world. It is the people who do that. They always say the end of the world. Where in fact they are the one who's ending up the whole thing. There's a lot of crime and disrespect in human life. People get so powerful putting and making things in different way. World is so beautiful in simple ways.

I think people forget simplicity is beautiful and best and think it has to be complicated to have a complete life.
