I usually cook 4-5 big meals a week so I am in the kitchen quite a bit. I clean as I go. I cannot stand cooking in a dirty kitchen! I have gotten my kids to follow after me which is awesome! After dinner, all we have to do is put our dishes in the dishwasher, put the leftovers away, and wash whatever pans are left! So, I am in complete agreement with you! Clean as you go...

We should always clean as we finish our meal for hygiene purpose and to have positive vibes in the house. As said in the hindu mythology, a clean house attracts money wisdom and power which is true. It also protects us from being prone to illness.

So true. And being prone to illness is no fun. Especially this time of year.

So much easier to clean as you go. And you have a man that actually cleans that way too? Wow!

It depends....sometimes I clean as I go....so it doesn't take very long to clean up later....especially if we have company and you don't want to waste time cleaning instead of visiting.

I try to clean as I go too but sometimes if things need to be done at the same time I do not get the chance. I hate to end up with a sink full of dishes and dirty pots/pans and then the counters need to be done too. If I do a little at a time it does not overwhelm me.

We can only do the best that we can. Don't want to get overwhelmed. Thanks for responding.

This is one of my pet peeves. Things like pots and pans can be washed while the meal finishes up. I cannot get hubby to do this. Especially the non stick cook ware.It does not take much. It does not take long to empty and reload the dishwasher. See if I can convince anyone else here of that principle, but it is what I learned as I grew up and as a young housewife.

I can't get my kids to do this. I had Home Ec when I was in school and they taught you to do things right. You really have to learn to do things this way so you have extra time.

hi celticeagle I did the same thing when I was still in our own
apartment. I did clean as I went so only the very last things I used and the plates and silver ware were to be loaded in the dishwasher and it made it so much easier specially at dinner time when I was working and already tired out.Now I am in this tiresome retirement center I no longer get to cook. lol. I do miss that not dishes but cooking. lol

Good morning, I always clean up as i go. I hate a messy kitchen. My mother always had everything in the kitchem a big mess after she cooked. I hated going in behind her to clean up. I run hot soapy water in the sink when i go into cook & wash everything as i go along.

I hate a messy kitchen. I think I am almost OCD about it.

When I cook, which really isn't that often, I like to at least throw my dirty dishes in the sink, so it's all in one place. I clean stuff like spilled flour, sugar, and other things as I go, so I don't have to clean the floor/counter when I'm done.

Ya, I don't cook anymore either but when I did I had to clean as I went. I knew that after i ate it was time to get to other things and I didn't want a dirty kitchen to come back to so I cleaned it up then.

The rule of thumb in our household is that the person who does the cooking is not the same as the person who does the cleaning
This little nifty rule was imposed by my grandmother when there were six people in the household, so, as you can imagine, there was quite a lot of work to do; now there's only three of us left, but I decided to keep it anyway. I do the cooking - twice a week - and my father cleans up after me. For smaller things however, like making breakfast or some quick pastry or just an omelet, then I tend to wash everything as soon as I'm done cooking, it doesn't take very long anyway.

Sounds like a cool rule to me. There are certain things I like to wash myself.

Yeah, i do too.I couldn't eat a hearty meal with the mess around so before a meal is served, i make sure that everything is cleaned up or in its proper places. It is more relaxing to eat when you're only thoughts are the foods you are going to taste not the mess you are going to clean afterwards. :)
