I just heard this question on TV so I thought I would ask it. I think they should be like 13. My wife said she thinks it is fine to start wearing lip gloss around age 11, and then slowly start to use other things at the age of 12 but that they should be taught how to wear it properly. So what do you think, at what age should girls start wearing makeup?

I originally was thinking that was too young as my sister's nine I was thinking eleven sounded really young but then I realised how she'll be into secondary eduction and which made me realise that around eleven sounds about right time to start her off for using make up but Id do exactly as your wife say's slowly allow your daughter to use other kinds of make up least that way she'll learn to appreciate it more and you'll be able suggest how much is too much.

I agree, I think my wife is right that they do need to be taught how to wear it appropriately and correctly.

Good day thedaddym,
I have two daughters 17 and 18 years old.My eldest started putting make up I mean the real stuff when she enter college, but she started I guess when she was 13 or 14. A little blush on and lip gloss, stuffs like that which she said to me just to blend with her friends who are already wearing make up. My youngest only puts on when she graduated in high school. At present she don't put anything on her face, so I guess it depends on the girl itself. Now many teenagers are more conscious with their look so some started earlier.Happy mylotting...

I think girls should start wearing makeup when they think they're ready for that. I personally prefer girls without makeup, or with just few makeup.

Maybe when they're 15 or 16. But I'd prefer that they wear makeup just when is needed. I mean party, or any event like that.

I(male prospective) would feel it is probably not appropriate or more not necessary for a girl to be even considering make up as young as 11. Boys probably should not have to be distracted by the opposite gender at such an early age. All children are at their prime age to be focusing on perhaps education rather than their physical appearance of the opposite gender. It may be hard to due all kinds of pressure society has. (eg. tv) Besides wearing makeup so early could contribute to worsen many skin related issues when girls go through puberty. Well suppose on rare special occasions they might consider it. (Such as maybe a school drama? or special event that requires so.) But probably not on a daily basis. (You don't want girls to mature to quickly or give them to many unwanted physical attention from perhaps pedophile??) It is a scary world out there. I would feel it is more appropriate for the girl to start wearing makeup when she is more educated about what she is putting on her face, and is capable of dealing with the social pressure and well aware of the purpose of makeup. Perhaps age is not the issue here but rather the knowledge she possess about makeup.

I think 13 as well. I think that is about when I started. But lipgloss I don't think matters.

Times are sure different from when I was growing up. Seems like kids are growing up faster these days - I see very young girls wearing make up now - and some put it on a little too thick! I have a 5 year old and I don't know exactly when I would allow her to put on makeup. First of all I would want to know that she knows how to take care of her skin/face . . . that she has a good routine about it. Then I would take other things into consideration . . . like what are her peers doing. I'm not into letting her do things just because her friends are doing it - but I do have to consider her feelings . . . I was in that spot once. I know I used to sneak make up on . . . and I don't want my daughter to feel she has to sneak around to do anything behind our backs. I would have to say somewhere around middle school age - the older tween years I guess.

Lip gloss is fine at any age, but for other types of makeup I think the appropriate age is 14 or 15. Eyeliner should wait until at least 16 years of age.

Hmm... I don't wear make-up unless I'm required to (and by required I mean forced into it...). I'm stubborn. I don't like it.
Yes, I am female. And I'm 33.
I also don't like wearing heels. I prefer nice, flat, comfortable shoes.
Omg, am I a freak?!?!?! D:
Sorry. I'm not answering your question...
Uhm... late teens maybe. Last 2 years of high school and later.

make-up should be worn around the teenage years when a girl decides that she really wants to use it. Personally i dont like make-up because im more attracted to a natural look and those who are confident with their beauty just the way they are.
