I was watching t.v when I learned that the food donation act was already passed and there was a dry run of establishments donating their excess food which was not sold for the day and which is very much edible to our local red cross chapter which packed and distributed this food stuffs to the poor in a certain community. This is certainly a noble act of our government to feed the poor for free. As for us ordinary citizens, do you give your excess food if there is any to your less fortunate country man? Thanks my friends for sharing your opinion.

I really don't have alot of excess food. I try to use everything i have , don't like to be wasteful. We have a food pantry at church that i contribute to alot. I don't mind sharing w/anyone & if i knew someone needed something to eat i'd sure carry them something.

Hi AntiqueLady it is so nice to know that there are so many of us who share the same feeling of sharing even though we may sometimes be also at a need we still try to share it with our less fortunate brothers.

Giving food to your neighbors is an old Philippine tradition, but that does not mean they are poor, It's like telling them to taste our cooking or a good gesture, sometimes they would reciprocate although they are not obliged or expected to return the good gesture, the tradition is fast disappearing now and can be seen most of the times only in remote provinces. If I know somebody who is really poor, then I'd rather give money to buy fresh food instead of giving him our left overs

Yes, I donate to the local food pantry at least a couple of times a year. I should really do it more often and perhaps someday I will. I always make sure to take some stuff over there, sometimes I will even buy things just to take them there to help out the less fortunate. I believe that if you are fortunate you should help those who are not.

normally if i have food left over if i am on my own i will freeze it or use it the next day. If there was someone who i knew who could not afford food for themselvess then i would offer them some of my food but normally only if i know them, If you do not know people and you offer them food they might get offended so you need to be careful.

Yeah that is right, we should sometimes be discreet to whom we give or they might take it a sign of insult.

Well, I don't usually do it, only when we are having some get-together or family reunions or if someone's celebrating a birthday that we cook so much for our visitors. But on ordinary day, I only cook enough for the family's consumption so there would never be any waste of food. I have also heard that news on TV that you were talking about, and yes, it was a good step by the government to share their excess food that was not sold for the day to some needy people in our neighborhood. My son who used to work in a pizza parlor said before that those excess pizzas that were not sold were only thrown in the garbage by their store and they were not allowed to give those to scavengers outside their establishment. The management was just being careful that it might be spoiled and the scavengers and beggars might suffer some stomachache and they will be liable for that , so better to throw those away.

In my local community we hold a food drive every year. It is a custom in my family to go gather for the needed. We are all people that are alive and have needs why not help them as much as we can.
