Balance and Life

For some reason we expect our lives to be the only thing that exists without balance. We know that's impossible, but we often refuse to accept anything less.
We want joy without sadness, pleasure without pain, light without darkness and riches with no poverty.
"For ever action there is an equal and opposite reaction". We accept this as scientific law, but in our moanings and wishes we want that law broken.
But life refuses to listen to our whining. That's because there's no reason to listen to the demands of spoiled people who plead for the impossible.
Would we really want the world the way we demand it? Would we give up all the beauty in life in exchange for no ugliness? If it meant we would never feel sorrow again, would we accept a life without happiness?
How many of us would trade away the pain of life, knowing it would mean we would never find joy, elation or growth?
Balance dictates that there is just as much beauty in the world as there is ugliness. But we trivialize the beauty and over emphasis the pain. We demand justice but beg for mercy.. knowing that you can't have one without the other.
I guess it would be a "pleasant" life, just being here, nothing to worry about or be troubled by. No growth, no resistance, just average people existing.
Sorry, but that sounds pretty lame to me.

This is a deep thought, and very true. However, many people expect Heaven to be exactly like that, and rightly point out what you have just said: how will we know we're happy if there's no sadness?
That's why many people feel that Heaven, as traditionally described, would be rather boring, and would prefer somewhere more interesting.
As a flip question: if Hell is supposed to be only suffering, how would you know you were suffering if there was no happiness?

Well, you could look at it a few ways here. It could be that Heaven and Hell are the balance. Those who go to heaven get to experience only the "good" and then those in hell get all the "bad".. Both would still exist, so there would be balance. Also, in the balance is the extremes. Heaven would be as wonderful and beautiful as hell is awful and ugly.
Of course, since we're talking heaven and hell, we can discuss the Biblical God. The Bible doesn't make it sound like everything is wonderful for God all the time. He feels happy and sad, angry and loving... etc.

Good point about god feeling sad and angry. Of course, he feels sad and angry about things that don't happen in heaven, but on earth. So perhaps those in heaven will be able to see or understand the suffering in hell, and compare their lot to that, and vice versa.

Life without problems would be horribly boring. We would not appreciate beauty without ugliness and wouldn't truly enjoy prosperity if we didn't experience poverty.
I still remember the time when I ran out of money 3 days before payday. There was no food in the house except dog food for my dog. I was hungry and it just got worse and worse. I was miserable! On payday I cashed my check as soon as I could and stopped at a convenience store and bought an apple. I don't think anything ever tasted as good as that apple! I ate every last morsel except the stem, even the seeds.
I think of that time often and I'm grateful for the bounty I have now. But if I had not gone for days without food I would not truly appreciate what I have now.
I appreciate my safety, my health, my financial stability, my friends and my family. Because I have been without all of those I know their value and treasure them. You can't really value your life unless you've come close to losing it and you can't enjoy it unless you've been through bad times.

Hi,
Your post is quite interesting,we always as human beings wish we always have all the comfort of life but sometimes we can not help but accept the unfortunates things that comes our ways even though we do not plan for them. Live is full of "UPS AND DOWNS" we should always prepare for the worse case scenarios as journey through this short life of ours.

hi parated but how would we know how to appreciatre happiness if we never had sadness or good health without some pain, like you stated there is for every action an equal and opposite reaction. I think we would all turn into something like the stepford wives with out some sadness and pain in our lives, don't things like that help us to grow and not stay the same. if we are never challenged by hard things how would we evera ppreciate the good in life.nothing stays the same in life or should not,m things are always changing and moving forwards. We must change and grow also. but if we have no challenges how can we really appreciate what is good. every action has an equal and opposite reaction. we have joy becqause we have experieenced sadness and we know how to appreicate joy,.WE are all spoilded as we want all that good but without hard work and sacrifices to get there. what is it worth if its handed to us on a silver platter.we brave problems and obstacles in order to make some gains. we grow through our errors and our problems and come out hopefully better people for it.How do we learn anything if nothing is upsetting or problematic? We learn by facing and solving our problems ourselves. I had always depended on my son to solve all my computer problems then life handed us some problems and I live here in this retirement center and he is in an apt with three othe men. so I have had to learn that there is a lot of things I can do to help myself with my computer. I have sometimes asked for directions but I did the work myself and in doing it I learned some things about my own computer. I may be 84 but my brain functions just fine and it makes me feel proud of myself when I can do these repairs. I

Man's exists in this world for a purpose, and that belief mean anything to me and other people's belief. Since man tends to do more good than bad, they made discovery, create, or or experiment things that made them curious. By that, man on his eagerness to sustain life here on earth, trying to live for than belief, discovered something that they could make them enjoy the life they have, through knowing other people's minds and thoughts and study them to make them more superior to other race. Isn't it that's what they're wanting for survival to know more about this planet called earth. The balance of things comes handy with man to pro-create another for their whims and caprices, and that they want to enjoy their lives according to their wishes, without knowing that they're destroying the planet slowly. So, if man wants to live by average life, some other people will try to uplift their standards to what they want. I think, as of today, as the chain continuous living of man, there's no other thing we can do here is to proceed with our life and let men be unified in one purpose only.
