I would suggest that you create a separate account (in Windows) for your child and either get NetNanny or a similar software or use Windows' own restrictions. Of course, you would also create your own account with Administrative rights from which you would manage the access of your child's account. Any browser-based solution (as Netscape's add-on would be) is not going to be the answer because he could easily use Internet Explorer or another browser if he really wanted to.

I am using firefox. I am not using windows anymore because I always have trouble with it. Now with firefox everything is fine but the kid can access to any p o r n sites, If I won't block it. He is not actually my child it's my husband nephew from chicago and will stay with us until August. I found out that he is very smart on doing things online.! like games etc..but I am just worried if he will have access to this p o r n sites.

If you are not using Windows then you must be using Linux or Apple MAC. Otherwise I don't understand what you mean. Windows is an operating system. It is the basic bread-and-water that makes your computer run (unless you have Linux or MacOS). Firefox is a browser ... an application that runs on Windows, Linux OR MacOS. I suspect that you ARE using Windows (but not Internet Explorer) and that you DO need to look at creating separate accounts for different users.

It's possible that he's already been to the sites that you don't want him on, and has just deleted his history from the browser. There are tons of ways to block the sites that you can get on the computer, but I really think that the best thing is to talk to your son about what sites you don't want him viewing, and why. If he's that smart, then he'll be able to get around a lot of blocks, I know I did when I was younger.

Yeah..that's very dangerous to our children. I am just wondering why the government is not doing something to prevent or stop these websites owners.!

Like owlwings said, if you are using Windows, you can set parental controls. Here is a how-to for Windows 7: www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/features/parental-controls.aspx XP and Vista have similar controls.

I cannot suggest to you any completely proofed service simple for you, because there truly is none that will block all these sites for you. But, all I can suggest is for, if you use Firefox, to use the extension, BlockSite. You will have to add each site separately, but if you do ask my opinion, it is worth it, and works well. It is free to get, and if you do use it, find a list of the top, about 25, p o r n sites, and block them all.
