why is shanthakumaran sreesanth not giving a place in wc squad . he performed well in nz odi series he took 7 wickets in just two matches only . with a great economy rate of 5.01 runs per over . he was then given rest and was put into bowl in tests against SA . After that no one dayers he was given chance and was ousted and a person like piyush chawla who did not play for 30 months is brought away . is this politics or cricket.

sreesanth's place was always doubtful as Dhoni was heavily backing Nehra and Zaheer cannot sit out. But yes, I am too shocked about the inclusion of Piyush Chawla. Strange, very strange.

Hi karan, Your observation may be genuine but you have to understand that everybody can not be given chance in 15 member squad. You have to give some leeway to the selectors they have done fairly good job. You can not compare the selection of Piyush Chawlw with that of Srisanth one being a leg break baller and the other pace baller. Pace baller can only be replaced by a pace baller and in the selected list you could have argued for Srisanth only in place of Munaf Patel and Munaf of recent has done a fairly good job and deserves a place in the side. The selection of Piyush chawla is particularly important because of the fact that many sides are vulnerable against leg spin.

Shreeshant's ODI record isn't very impressive as his test record suggests. He's a kind of a bowler that bowls one good ball out of 6. Even if the bowls 5 bad balls and and go for runs, that 1 wicket taking ball will come in handy. This will work in tests but will backfire on ODIs. Not long before, I have seen him bowl in ODI and gone wicketless for 80 runs in an ODI. On the other hand, even though Praveen kumar is not an express bowler, he can swing the ball both ways. Indian conditions normally doesn't suit fast bowling, yet, he has performed so well in the limited opportunity he has got in the Indian conditions and in domestic circuit.

if having srresanth is a gamble.what better place to try him on than the world cup where favourites have been eleminated early and minnows went to super sixes. just dont think piyush is a good choice.why give a guy who haven't played an international match for more than 2 years and never played a ODI match in blue jersey instead of a guy who can pick wickets even if he goes for runs?

I have to say really it was an absurd decision from the selection comitte.I think there had a political game in this selectiontoo. Also I eard that it was due to Dhoni's urge to take Nehra in the team who did't perform well in a number of series before.

Dear Karan Khanna Sreesanth did perform well in the tests. In fact he was arguably the best bowler for India against South Africa. It was surprising that he was not given a bowl in the South African one dayer's either. His omission from the World Cup was because in Indian conditions may be it would be better off with an extra spinner. But I certainly do not agree with Piyush Chawla as that extra spinner. Amit Mishra or a Pragyan Ojha would have been a better option any time. I just hope that the selections work out in the end, because I certainly would love to see the Indian team lift the World Cup. Sreesanth is always a lottery in ODI's. Praveen or Munaf are a safer bet. I do not think world cup squads can be picked by taking performance of last two matches only. May be you have a case here. If Chawla could be in, why not Sreesanth !

I think the selection committee has taken right decision by not to take sree for the WC. He is not good in indian pitch and there is many good bowler are available so why sree is there.
