what is the use of back link?

What is back link. really I don't understand it very much. I hope Evey article writer or blogger should know about this. Please explain this to me with examples. thanks in Advance.

I guess the "back" link is used tp take you to the previous page that you were visiting in blogger.But i am not so sure on what is it in article writer.
