Last Night great nephew that has been staying with us since June. Was talking to people back home think it was his great grandma.
and she had got a call from thnk police asking for him there in Tenn.
SHe told them he was out of state and then asked why the call . They told her he and a feller had robbed someone! and they wanted him for questioning or to put him in jail.
SHe told them it wasnt him for he was in NEvada since June.
Here the poor boy being accused of something and being 2,000 miles away .
BUt tehre is another kid there with the same name not kin.
How would you feel if you got this kind of call about your kids or grandkids?
I would think it might be harrasment from the cops?

Oh my...that's terrible. I would freak out if I got a call like that. If they continued to bother her then I would think it was harrassment! They know now that it wasn't him..there's no reason to bother her anymore. I would be filing a complaint if they did.

Hmmm....same name and the police didn't verify before they made the call?
I would be scared and worried for my child too if the police made such a call.
People here get bashed up before the police confirm anything....and I wouldn't want any of my kids going through that :(

That would be pretty confronting I guess and quite frightening too. I don't know about harassment though. If he has the same name as someone wanted and they come looking, that's not harassment. That's an enquiry. If they continue to poke and insist he is wanted for enquiries without checking things then that's harassment.

I woud think that it was a mix up because of the names and that they were around the same age. They had no idea what the other kid looked like . They were probably going after everyone with the same name and the same age. Also it would also depend on whether your great nephew had been in trouble with the police before. So don't worry about it. They were not harrassing him. If the one who did it, knew your family or knew your great nephew will he was in town, he might also tell them that he did it to get the blame off of him.

I would be shocked, alittle scared, and upset. The police is probably just doing their job. My first thought would be identity theft but you said there is another guy with the same name. Luckily you folks can prove he was there during the time of the robbery and get the police straightened out.

Lakota12,
This is the very reason why I take my personal identity seriously. I am sure you've heard of how thieves thrive online to steal every personal details they can find on social networking sites, blogs and match making sites.
Also, my personal belongings especially driver's license, identity card, passports, PDA and laptop where they will be well kept and password protected. You may never know how they can be used to incriminate us or put us at odds with the authorities.
I can understand the complication when it comes to name similarities and how it could get us messed up. However, I thought the authorities should have conducted careful checks before calling or turning up at your place to make such request or allegation. This is purely some miscarriage of authority and plain negligence. The investigating officer must have been sleeping on the job. I am surprised here.

Hello my friend Lakota12 Ji,
I think you have clearly defined in your subject heading. Also I agree what you think in yoiur closing sentence, it is purely harassmenty by police. Yoiu should shoot out highest post by a letter about his presence 2000 miles awy with some proofs.Thanks.
May God bless You and have a great time.

It is harassment yes,, this happened to me once,,in 1988,,but then again,,in this day and age,,at least the public should be glad that the police are working,,sometimes they understand when u talk

Since the cops there know tat this is a 90 year old woman think they should have gone to the house but then to think they should have looked more into it before they accused the boy of course we know he couldnt have for he is 2,000 miles away from Tenn.

I would be outraged and livid and I would not let the policeman off the hook that easy. I would make such a stink that the policeman would have regretted having made the mistake.
I realize that sometimes policeman can make mistakes, but what if the grandma would have had a heart attack or something, this type of news is very heart wrenching. I would hope that the police made an investigation first before they call and made such accusation. It would be easy to show up and calmly ask about his where about instead of a phone call. Gee!
