I don't know why i suddenly have this craving for chicharon. In the Philippines there are two kinds of chicharon, one is pork skin and the other is chicken skin. I love both but i eat the pork one more. I know that they are not healthy food, but then we, Filipinos just love to enjoy food.
Most people would eat chicharon dipped in spicy vinegar together with beer. They are called a beer match food! They really taste good and it's crunchy too!
I'm not sure if chicharon exists in other countries too but i know that in korea they eat grilled pork skin.

I love chicharon too! especially the ones which are made in Cebu City. They're not just pork skin but the meat is also there. You can choose the ordinary chicharon and the special one. Every time my tita goes to Cebu I always tell her to bring my favorite. And it is best to dipped it in spicy vinegar.

In USA they called Pork Rinds, yes in some regions in America they eat chicharon, It is influence from the Mexican immigrants. In mexico they refer it as chicharones. You may not believe this but during the Spanish rule many Mexicans migrated to the Philippines, Avocado and Squash were not native to the Philippines, Mexicans brought them here. So many people are not ware they have Mexican blood. Also during The Spanish rule many Filipinos Migrated to mexico, Infact there is a city in mexico where everyone have Filipino blood.

I think part of the Mexican/Filipino exchange is the Galleon trade. After the Spanish rule the connection between Mexicans and Filipinos is cut.

Wow, that is piece of interesting information. Chicharon or chicharones is just great, but a no, no for high blood pressured. Cebu is known for this especially in Carcar. It's as if the whole town's business is making chicharon next to shoes.

There are lots of varieties of chicharon, there are also shrimp, squid, but mostly made of starch or flour with only different flavoring. And yes you are right chicharon is not a healthy food but people still love to eat. And just as you said a matching spicy vinegar makes the eating more enjoyable. But me.... I don't eat chicharon anymore. Yes before I admit I love chicharon especially Lapid's chicharon but after having known how unhealthy this stuff is I totally erased chicharon from my mind. I never eat this anymore.

YEs, I love chicharon too. I haven't heard about the one made of chicken skin though. But these days, chicharon doesn't taste like how it was before. It's not as crunchy and tasty. But there are still some brands that stay the same.

I tried the homemade chicken chicharon. My housemate brings chicken skin and wings from the restaurant she was working where these parts of chicken are just being thrown on the garbage. I am telling you, this chicharon she cooks are really crunchy and tasty.

I love chicharon too but I limit my intake as I am aware of the cholesterol it would bring to my arteries. My brother is addicted to it and since we are living outside the Philippines, everytime we know someone going home, we always request to buy 4-5 packs of chicharon from Lapids as it is the best one you can find in Manila. I also like the chicharon from Bulacan and bagnet in Laoag. But due to the distance, Lapid is the best option.
Mexico has also chicharon, they call it chicharones. I tried once during my holiday in the US, the one that can be bought from the supermarket, but it is not as good as what we have. But a friend told that me that there are very good Mexican chicharones, as good as what we have in the Philippines.
There is also a US made chicharon that is microwable. It can be purchased online. I tried it as well but I still prefer the pinoy chicharon.

You are right, Lapid's chicharon is the best option.
I specially like that one that they say a bit fleshy. It's a bit frightening though to eat it that much, because of its cholesterol ! But it's really delicious specially dipped in a spicy vinegar and then down it with a coca-cola. A sinful treat once in a while will not do any great damage , i think.

Now you've done it! I almost rid myself of chicharon cravings but you went ahead and made me crave them more. Ah well, what the heck.. I better get ready for some serious exercise again. I'm about to raid the pantry for some chicharon fun!

I used to eat much chicharon. that was when I was still younger.
Now that I am nearing forty, and quite hypertensive, I don't eat chicharon anymore.
I wish to eat them but I would not take the risk anymore.
