India chose to have just one keeper in their squad..ie captain Dhoni. Is this the correct choice? What happens if Dhoni gets injured?? Anyone capable to keep wickets in his absence?

Do you think the selectors did not think about such situation? They did. If Dhoni or any wicket keeper gets injured during the tournament, the team can send additional keeper who has not been named in WC squad. India has an advantage because the WC is taking place in the sub continent and they can have the keeper within no time. So, don't worry and just hope that Dhoni doesn't get injured because we need him more as a captain than as a keeper.

Oh. Is it possible to include a player who was not selected in the last 15? coz Dhoni is the only player in the 15 selected.

Yes, it is possible only if your first choice keeper gets injured. There is a provision for that.

i dont think dhoni will get injured. actually now the only job dhoni is doing well is keeping. his batting is an old story. dhoni is in the team as keeper and captain. and hope that he will adjust it, and he is fit enough to play the whole world cup.

There is nothing depending upon your thinking... Anybody can get injured at any time...I think there should have some backup plan.

hmmm.it got something to do with not having a wicket keeper captain for a long time that u forget that wicket-keeper and only think of him as captain. if Dhoni got injured, will he rest or continue to captain the team fielding at mid-on o something? if he is not captaining, then u have the problem of finding a wicket-keeper as well as a captain to lead the team. if he captains instead of injury,if he got hurt in the early part of the tournament, fielding at some other spot,it raises even bigger concerns like not having enough time to recover therefore aggrevating the injury and the replacement wicket-keeper has to force another settled player from the squad for him to fill. damn.next time i send a team to world cup,i will make sure the wicket-keeper is not the captain.

Actually captaincy might not be such a big issue, as Gambhir too israted as a good captain. However, one thing is right. If Dhoni gets injured, India suffers a double blow. It would be difficult to recover from there.

Hey cris, Good observation ! There are many who believe that Parthiv should have been in the team instead of Chawla. I am sure that BCCI has gone in with just 1 keeper simply because the tournament is in Subcontinent & they can a get a replacement fast. Still this strategy is too risky for comfort.

I was about to say that. Parthiv deserved a place, even if just as a reserve keeper. The entire plan can go wrong, if something happens to Dhoni. But I suppose Dhoni might have played a major hand in this move. Reduces competition too. :) (Just joking)

For such a long and important tournament such as world cup, a reserve wicket keeper should have been selected to guard against the injury to the main keeper. Keeper being skipper non selection due to form does not arise. Lot of discussions must have gone in selection of reserve wicket keeper in selection committee meeting and after prolonged discussions they must have reached to this conclusion based on certain facts. May be they have got good part time keeper we don't know about, may be they thought the tournament being in India they may be able to get the re[placement easily. But replacement, I feel, may be allowed only in case of serious injury. There is another aspect to this issue after all the maximum number of matches those will be played by any side are six in the first round and another three up to final if the side is good enough to reach the final. This aspect must have weighed heavily in not selecting the reserve keeper.

Good point. The world cup this time has a very small schedule. There is no super six stage, and most of the teams, except the deserving four, will be out after 6 matches. So maybe the management thought that it is not too big a risk to depend on Dhoni, atleast for 6 matches.

I don't think it's correct choice...There should have one backup at least...If Dhoni get injured , I think we requited a regular wicket kipper like Perthiv Patel..
