Many of us use social networking sites for promoting our works. Facebook and twitter are most common of them. I post my articles in both the sites and see others doing that as well. However, hardly a few click open the links and read them, which is understandable also. Sometimes, I click the links if they sound interesting. Time is a major factor.
Do you use the social networking sites to promote yourself? Do you think they fetch you more traffic? Do you read others?
Thanks.

I use Twitter to a small extent, but not Facebook. My favorite social networks to use for promoting stuff I write is actually not stuff like Twitter and Facebook, but rather social bookmarking sites. There are several good ones out there, Stumbleupon is my favorite though, and they have given me really nice results. You should definitely try it!

I have used Digg and Delicious. But will give Stumbleupon a try. Have heard about it a lot. Thanks for telling me.

Do you find there's a right way and a wrong way to use these bookmarking sites? I have a stumble upon account but I've never really used it. Maybe you could do a tutorial for us green folks.

I just started out my blog collaborating with my friend and besides promoting it via facebook and twitter, I also promote it in one of the largest forum discussion in my country. I think putting it on social networking sites definitely boost my blog hits. I don't expect each of my friends open it but at least I hope my articles are useful for them.

I haven't really used sites like Facebook and twitter to promote any of my articles, as I am hardly active there. But, i've spent some time researching ways of getting traffic and promoting. Yes, social networking sites help to some extent, and social bookmarking tools are more effective. But the simple thumbrule is the more you are active on these sites, the more traffic you will get. For that, as you have said, time is indeed a major factor. It requires a slow and constant build up of networking and it will work in the long run.

I agree. Ultimately it all comes down to the availability of time. we need to devote time to earn credibility.

I'm on Facebook but not Twitter, just too many accounts to manage? Haha!~I rarely post articles, only links of my sites once in a while for the things I'm selling. I just recently got a software though which rakes in free traffic legally which is just superb!~

I don't look to promote articles but I do try to promote different ways of earning money however without very much success although I'm still new to promoting through social network sites. I'm still hoping with experience I'll learn hoe to improve my promotion and convince doubters that their are ways of making decent money online.

I wish you luck. As bubbagirl as said, even I believe, that social bookmarking tools are more effective in getting traffic.

Hi Mimpi!
I also use these sites to promote my blogs. I think there is nothing wrong in promoting our work through these sites. I post the links on these sites with the hope that my dear friend will spare some time to go through my articles and many of them (including you) do me a favour and read my work. Sometimes, I send my links to my friends through mails, so that they could quickly access my work and it helps.
Have a great evening!

Hi deepak!
I read ALL your articles in every possible place you post them. I read them a few times and leave comments also. So when you are posting them on FB, i am already done with them, a few times.
Now you can applaud me.
Seriously, I think, your articles are so engrossing that people will read them no matter what.

Thanks inda. How have you been? Are you still in Bukisa? I love your articles. And coming to social networking sites - they are indeed inexpensive and some friends do hit on the links.

Hi mimpi,
I have over 2700 friends on facebook.. Now donot smile sarcastically, this is an account which i made for farm ville and 2690 are only farmville friends whom i dont even know. So my friend is in to blogging and she asked me to share her blogs on wall of my friends so i shared on about 100 friends of mine there. Can u believe it , she didnt get 80 views before but during that period in 10 days she got over 10,000 views. Though it was from 29 december and her topics were on how to quit smoking.. so she got lucky too as most smokers make new year resolutions.. but it does show power of facebook in getting you traffic.

Firstly, I congratulate her on the traffic. It was a great topic that goes without saying. I also appreciate the effort you took for her. That's a sweet gesture. Having said that, the article must have been a great one as well.

Well yeah I might do that, but isn't that kinda humiliating if the article is not good or like full of wrong grammars? And when you put it on facebook your friends read it right?

You may not choose to share Joshua if you feel being humiliated. But I feel good friends and family do not mind reading your 'wrong grammars'.

I use both of these social networking sites to promote my business. This is usually in the form of letting people know about new products, specials, newsletters and articles. I promote on my Facebook page directly or through Twitter which is directed to my Facebook page. We also have a Facebook group which has around 400 members now I think.
It just adds a little bit extra visibility to what we are doing, not a great deal. It cannot hurt to share through these websites, so we do it. We never expect great results from them. We get a much better response from our mailing list which is over 12,000 people at the moment. It is just fun and a great social way to interact with our customers and get to know them better.

Hello friend
I have a facebook account, twitter, tagged and many others too, as per my setting, i do get notifications to my email id, but i just ignore them, in the sense, i don't visit the sites daily, just once in a week, i have no time in fact..
I don't use them for any kind of promotion..
Thanks for sharing
Cheers. God bless you, have a nice day ahead.

Hi Charlie,
I really appreciate your optimism and I know that you will succeed sooner. Nothing wrong in promoting your works and you might get a few hits. Two things are important. 1) A good titles, 2) apt tags. And your articles would come up on search engines.
