Living With Migraines

For the last 3 days I have waking up with a migraine. It doesn't go away during the day and I still do everything in the house as far as cleaning goes and I take care of my pets.
When my husband comes home I make sure he has dinner and anything else he wants.
Migraines disrupt everything in my life. I don't sleep because of the pain and I move slowly during the day because of the excrutiating pain cause by the movement.
This morning I finally took my last migraine pill and then a nausea pill and two other pain pills. I am pain free at the moment, but now I am groggy and feeling the effects of the meds.
I have tried everything for my migraines except acupunctur. I just can't afford it. I am looking for some homereadys and suggestions on how to keep migraines away.
I appreciate anything you have in the way of recommendations.

There are many, many things that can cause migraines. Have you eliminated all unneccessary chemicals from your home? Try cleaning with just a mixture of vinegar and water for a few weeks and see if that makes a difference.
They can also be caused by food allergies. It is good to keep a record of absolutely everything you eat and drink, as well as when your migraines occur and how long they last, to see if you can spot a pattern. If you begin to suspect a certain food or food group (like dairy) do not eat it for two weeks and see if your migraines disappear.
Being dehydrated can cause migraines. Drink lots of water.
Stretch your major muscles gently before doing chores/playing with kids, etc. Muscle knots in certain places can cause terrible headaches.
Sudden drops in estrogen levels can cause migraines. See a doctor, and perhaps try going on a medication to regulate estrogen levels to see if this helps.
Also, before trying something like acupuncture, you should really see a doctor because things like blood clots can cause headaches, as well as sinus pressure. I get terrible migraines from sinus pressure, meds don't help, and sometimes a washcloth with very hot water placed over my eyes and the bridge of my nose helps.
Good luck!

Rebecca, I have no chemicals in the house. Bleach is a big one for me that causes maigraines along with other odors such as onions.
I keep my water bottle with me all of the time and I'm constantly refilling it.
Basically everything you have suggested I am already doing. I do agree with you about the sinuss being affected it's very painful.
I appreciate all of your suggestions. It's a refresher course for me to go over what you have said.
The one thing I haven't tried is the hot washcloth over my eyes. I have always used ice packs....now I'm going to try the hot washcloth.
Thanks so much!

Wow, I'm sorry you are still so affected even when you have tried everything! Hopefully they will go away one day -- sometimes the human body changes for no reason, like me with my allergies. They come and go, and it seems to be completely random!

I get migraines and wake up with them in the morning sometimes and I know what you mean about them disrupting your day. I have everything planned and then I have to put it all on hold and the pain means I don't feel like doing anything.
You can some patches to go on your forehead which are meant to help migraines. I've found they help to a degree in that they bring my temperature down and maybe relax the muscles a bit.
Magnesium is a good bet as it relaxes muscles. Tight muscles can contribute to a migraine and it doesn't cost a lot, you can take them last thing at night.
If you are waking up with them in the morning then it is possible that you might be clenching your teeth or grinding them as you sleep. I went to a new dentist lately and they've spotted this with me and they think this is why I'm waking up with them in the morning.
So they've told me if I notice I'm tensing my face while a work, which I do when I'm on the computer, then to make an effort to relax them and see if it works and they're going to make me a mouthguard for at night which should help stop the morning migraines.
You should also ask your doctor about the possibility of having TMJ which isn't anything to worry about or Neuralagia which is nerve pain and can mimic a migraine.

Jane, yes, I take magnesium along with some other supplements and I also was told by my doctor that I grind my teeth in my sleep. I practice Bio-feedback to help me relax along with meditation. I try to resolve any issues that may be bothering me during the day so I don't ruminate over them at night causing me to lose sleep.
I haven't tried any patches and I am going to look into it.
I'm sorry you suffer from migraines to and hopefully someday a cure for them will be found. Good luck to you and thanks so much for your comment.

I have heard about people how they got relieved of migraine. Some got rid og migraine totally, once and for all. The way they did was by practising "meditation". Have you tried that ? You might want to. That will certainly help very much. Try to practise meditation atleast 30 minutes a day, any time in the course of the day convenient to you.
Best wishes to you !

Thanks so much for your comment greenline. Yes, I do meditation every day. It does help me relax and reduce the pain. It would be wonderful if meditation made the headache go away completely. Maybe as I get better at meditation the pain will decrease even more.
Thanks!!

People will get migraines when they are dehydrated, so drinks like powerade and gatorade are good for them because of the electrolytes. Also, make sure you drink tons of water throughout the day.
Migraines can also be caused sometimes when your back/neck is kinked, so yoga and other stretches help align the spine and can help at preventing and helping to relieve some migraines. Going to a chiropractor could also be beneficial if you can afford it.
Meditation could also help.

I think you should start by reading about triggers. Triggers are different foods and drinks that cause migraines. Read lists of what common triggers are, and see if any of them could be causing your migraines. If you see anything that could be causing it for you, try not to eat or drink this for a while and see if your condition improves due to this.
Otherwise, you need to see a doctor. There should be good meds available for everyone, so if you feel the side effects you mentioned from your current migraine medicine, you need to try something else.

Ranon...My migraines will last for days and sometimes up to a week. I get cluster headaches. I have had migraines since I was a child then when I had a cervical injury in 1987 my migraines intensified and changed in duration.
I have had all of the tests for brain tumors etc.,
The migraine med that works best for me is to expensive. It's 25.00 a pill. Instead of taking that med I take the cheaper pain pills which really don't do anything except knock me out for a few hours.
Thanks for your questions. I appreciate it.

Hi! I'm sorry to hear that. Migraine is something that bothers a lot of people especially women I think. I'm glad I don't suffer the same. You know I have a friend who was able to overcome migraine when she engaged in a daily workout for at least an hour a day. She was not really intending to cure her migraine but rather to lost some weight but little did she know that apart from losing weight she would also lose her migraine through regular workout. Why not try this? I might also work on you.

I get those kinds of migranes too. You said you had a cervical injury a while back? You may be right it could be part of the problem. I have quite bad blood and blood preessure. I can't donate its that bad and at my "lady time" as my ex used to call it I get horrendous pain and migraines.
My only way to deal is to be somewhere with very little light and usually a snooze can calm it.
Well done for being able to almost function normally, don't let the migraines get in the way of life
