Yep! It seems to be a first, but given how anthropomorphically people think of their pets now-a-days, it was probably only a matter of time!
The first movie screened was "Marmaduke," & the companies of Fox Entertainment & Pedigree, who launched this provided Pedigree snacks for the 20 pooches. There were 8 screenings in all & each one had an audience of "at least" 20!
What other films can you think of that might interest a dog? How about Scooby Doo? Beethoven's Fifth? Old Yeller? ???
And no, I'm not kidding; go see!

It's repeatedly said that if we blow ourselves off the planet with nuclear bombs, the cockroaches would be fine. I vote for them to evolve into any new, intelligent species! We spoil our pets too much for them to evolve higher.

Maybe Gissi wants a baby to care for? Male or female, some animals simply have a strong "maternal" instinct!

For the dogs, the movies would not really need to have a plot, so they would enjoy videos of cats running or of other dogged pursuits. On the other hand, I assume the owners go as well, so maybe Benji, and some old Lassie and Rin Tin Tin films, or 101 Dalmations, or Lady and the Tramp.

I agree! Did you read the comments under the article? Many thought it was an okay idea to have more socialization with one's pet(s), but it would be nice to watch any film with one's pet, & be together in other situations, too. I was pleased in Britain to find dogs with their owners in pubs & restaurants, & I know it was once the same here in the U.S.
Are people really so germ-o-phobic, here, or is the lack of pets in public just some government regulation? Goodness knows, the nanny state is always telling us how to care for ourselves!
Whatever, I know I wish we were like the Europeans, in that one respect, at least!
There was one lady who thought they should spend the money to help animals find homes or treatment, instead. I think people could do both.
And I'd love to see those doggy films again!

I did wonder how the dogs interacted--especially if any dog on screen set up a howl! And what sort of melee could one expect if a female in season showed up! Whew!
The article doesn't say if there were any such episodes, but if there weren't, (a) it would be remarkable, statistically, for there to have been none, & (B)if there were, I wonder why they didn't report it, & how they handled it?

That is a bit too crazy for me. And I am a dog owner who spoils her dogs way too much, hehe!

Yeah, I draw the line at allowing my kitty, Miss Minnie, to bully me awake to feed her morning treats from a kitty treat pouch (one of the few luxuries I have)!
