Stranger Danger-Would anyone help your child

A friend of ours who teaches combative arts down in Australia posted the following link tonight and I had to share it. It features Bill Stanton who has done numerous videos on teaching children what to do in the case of an abduction, and he puts his teaching to the test in the city. The shock comes when you watch several people pass by acting as if nothing is occurring.

We have taught both of our children to shout this very thing if someone were ever to try abducting them and this video is simply scary!
Would you stop and make sure this adult was truly this child's parent? Would you pass by? Would you call the police? What would you do? I know what I would do.

34momma-
I cried at the end too the first time I viewed it! And I loved how they spread out and got between the girl and the man. It was a perfect execution of what should be done when dealing with this type of situation.

they totally rocked it. and if that little girl was in trouble she would have been saved! I don't know any child that would scream you are not my daddy in the middle of the street because their father was yelling at them. if a child did do something like that, then that child needs professional help!! Come on people get it together!

Oprah used to have an author on that had written a book on teaching your child how to protect themselves. Each time he was on I would have my granddaughter come in and watch it. I also wrote and article on eHow about it. 'Rape' is another one to yell. I would stop. He is so big I would call the authorities and tell the little girl so and watch them until the authorities got there.

I think so and going over it again and again with your kids. Even if they get sick of it.

I believe that even in my small town, people would probably look the other way. If I encountered a situation like that, I would probably follow them, call 911, but I am not sure that I would physically confront them, unless I could not keep up with what was going on. Now if I was with another person, so that there were two of us, I would probably confront the situation and try to get to the bottom of it.

GG and Rich-
I agree. My husband and I would probably try to intervene and slow the situation down enough to get the full story. And as I carry a cell phone at all times I'd be calling the police and snapping a picture. Better to be safe than sorry.

Alice-
With proper training a woman can take on a man much larger than herself. It's a matter of physics. I would agree though, if you are not properly trained then don't attempt it, but in a group you'd be surprised what you can do. The point is to keep the child safe.

THis is one thing we will have to get Grand daughter to do .
We have told her to hit them in the privates and run like heck and I know she can hurt someone that way for when she was littler she hit daddy there he almost went to the ground and she does know it hurts.
Daughter is so on to telling her not to let anyone touch her private area that we have forgot to tell her to scream and she can scream you can hear her a block away.
She is also like my youngest son has never me a stranger we never let her in front yard without us being out there.
ITs so scary now for people do al kinds of weird thign evn in daylight hours ya have to watch every one!

Exactly. Sure, kids will be kids, but when a child is screaming that someone needs to stop and make sure things are kosher. We have taught both of our children to scream loudly "This isn't my mommy or daddy-depending" as well as "FIRE FIRE" as that will attract attention. We've then told them to hit the vitals (genitals) and how to break free, slip out of their jacket, and run like mad to the nearest help.

Hi Anora, I watched this video but I am not really surprised that so many people passed by,some did look back as if unsure of what to do. I think that I would stop and call the police and stay there until they came. Otherwise I would get the licence number of his car. I'm not sure if I'd personally intervene but I can't see myself doing nothing. Blessings.

Pose-
Calling the police with exact coordinates can be very helpful. I've heard on reports that the first few hours are the most critical in abduction cases. Again, if you can snap a picture and save it for the police that will help as well!

I think that the fact that I would try to make sure that there was nothing wrong in the situation has a lot to do with the fact that I am a parent myself. I was always taught that I should do to others as I would have done to myself and therefore I would have to stop and try to help the child because if it was my child in that situation I would hope that someone would do that for me. The fact that the girl was fighting showed that something was wrong. It was either she was being disobedient and the parent was being borderline abusive or she truely was being abducted. Either way, she needed help.

Agreed. I'd rather find out it was simply a case of a child disobeying then pass it by and find out later on the news this child was abducted.

When I was in school, we were taught all about "Stranger Danger", and when I was a child, no one attempted to try and kidnap me, but some of my friends were targets, and luckily they were smart enough not to go with the guy, they took down the license plate of his car, and the police caught him and arrested him.
We were always told that if we saw someone that we didn't know, don't go with them, run, if we can take down the license plate of the car they are driving, do so, and if they try to apply force. Scream, hit them, and dig your nails into their skin (it leaves your DNA in the guy and that can get him charged with attempted kidnapping).

Rogue-
People are finding that the old "stranger danger" doesn't attract as a much attention as yelling let's say "FIRE",but as we can see from the video people still do not always help out.

Saphrina-
I know. I think I would rather be wrong and it just be a parent fighting with their child, then pass it up and be right that it was an abduction.
