This is the question...my daughter will be 4 on April 26 & has been out of nappies since September with only an accident here & there...she now wakes up during the night when she needs to go to the toilet...I have been putting her in the re-useable terry towelling training pants of a night just to be on the safe side but am thinking about taking them out of her underware drawer as I don't think she needs them anymore...when did you stop putting training pants on your children?

I think my daughter was a little younger when she started to not need any sort of protection on herself or her bed. She seemed to grasp the concept of keeping her bed dry fairly quickly.
But my son is the opposite. He kept the pullups on at night until the sizes were all too small for him. He did go off them for a while, but then went backwards nearly a year later and we had to buy them again. We have tried all sorts of things with him to help him keep his bed dry but he still wets his bed half the time at age 9! It is really frustrating and embarrassing for him too. He cannot have sleepovers or have friends over as he gets too embarrassed by it.

I feel sorry for your son...I know they do say that boys can be a little slower than girls but I know it just goes to each individual person too...my hubby said that his brother wet the bed till he was about 12 or 13...hopefully your son will sort himself out soon.

Yea, I hope so. He is starting to improve at the moment. He will go for days dry and then have a couple of wet ones in a row. We got a herb from Isabell Shipard the herb expert in Nambour on Saturday, so we are going to make a tea for him to take. It is called "Small Flowered Willow Herb"

I would say that it is time to take a chance. if your daughter has been doing well, it might just be time to let her take that solo step.

I think I was around that age when my parents took the training pants off of me, but it's not a matter of the right age, it's a matter for the individual. If you think your daughter no longer needs them, there's no need to use them. If she still needs them, then by all means, use them!

I can't even remember when my mum took my training pants away lol....I think that my daughter probably doesn't need them anymore....I think I may just take them away.

Four years old is about the right age for that,
depending on her development or how you feel.
You might try taking her out of
the training pants if you feel she is ready
for that, but keep a vinyl
sheet on the bed under the sheets so that
if there is an accident her bed won't be ruined.
When my daughter was around the same age,
she began to night time potty train for real.
When she stopped drinking so much
water before bedtime, she night time potty
trained herself within just two short weeks.
Of course, she was allowed to get the water
she needed, just not enough to make her feel
like wetting the bed.
And, I always made sure to request that she go
to the bathroom at least TWICE before going to bed.
That way her bladder wasn't full during the night time.
After that point, training paints were not needed.
Being seven years old, she is now old
enough to get herself up to go to the bathroom
as she needs.
These things take time with little kids.
I'm sure your daughter will do fine.

I think what you have said & the others who have responded have given me more confidence to take the training pants off my daughter...i feel she is ready...she does have a waterproof mattress protector on the bad which will help too.

I would say that if she is staying dry through the night then it's time to ditch the training pants! If she's realizing that she may have to get up and use the bathroom then she's ready to be in big girl pants even through the night. Perhaps you should put on of those mattress pads on her bed that has plastic under it though in case she does have an accident.
Perhaps you could put the training pants on the outside of her underwear for a few nights, so that if she does have an accident it feels to her like an accident but the urine doesn't get all over teh bed?

I do have a waterproof mattress protector on her bed...I am definitely thinking about taking the training pants away now.

I only used training pants for a day trip. Letting them get used to the wet feeling seems to make them want to go to the potty! I was just let go of the training pants. Not a big deal if there is a mess now and then!
