Ambam, a Western lowland gorilla, was filmed walking about his enclosure in a British Animal Park. If you watch the video, you can clearly see Ambam standing upright & walking like a man!!! I saw a discussion here not long ago asking if we thought monkeys could ever evolve into a human. At the time I didn't respond because I didn't have the appropriate knowledge to back up my beliefs that yes monkeys are on our heels in the evolution race!!! As it frequently happens with discussions here, once I passed over that discussion, I continued on without even looking back. Then I wake up to the news showing Ambam walking upright & proud like a human & they say that this trait is becoming much more common in the Gorilla family. Many Gorillas are no longer doing the knuckle walk opting to walk upright like a human. Having seen this video, what are your thoughts on the evolution of our primate friends???

I saw the video! I was in shocked when I saw it! I still don't believe it! This Gorilla looked so human! He was so like a human doing this! Wow! I also thought chimps were are closest relatives! Now the gorillas like they are or getting closer! It is crazy and amazing at the same time!

I was amazed when I saw the clip on the news & I'm still amazed at how humanlike he has become!!! He reminds me of one of my uncles & one of my cousins with his posture & the way he moved his head!!!

This is not evidence of evolution, to claim it is demonstrates a profound misunderstanding of evolution

You have your opinion & I have mine.
You've said NOTHING to change my opinion.

One member of a species walking upright more often than normal proves nothing. Gorillas walk upright anyway, that this particular one chooses to do so more or for longer may or may not be down to a genetic change.
Even if it could be shown to be a genetic change and not a behavioural one still not evolution. Only if there were sufficient genetic drift in a population and only if walking upright produced some advantage, sufficient to increase the reproductive fecundity those Gorillas with such genetic change would this possibly lead to evolution.
The poster claims this trait is becoming much more common in Gorillas but I see no evidence of this
Hope that elucidates the matter

Yes, I saw that in the news too. I was quite surprised and it looked so cool. I believe that primates, or other monkeys too can do that if they want, since they have strong legs. maybe the gorilla just imitated people there. I don't really think it's evolution though.
