What has been the most life-Changing experience you've ever had?

I'm afraid my life altering event is not a happy one. Everything was great...I had graduated from college and gotten a job I truely enjoyed. I worked there for 8 years, then I started having health problems. Something was wrong with my back. It hurt so bad, I couldn't even lay down in bed. I had to sleep in a recliner. I went to the doctor and had many tests done, but they couldn't find anything wrong. Eventually, I was put in the hospital for more tests, and they finally found the problem. I had a bone infection that totally disintegrated one of my lumbar vertebrae. I had 3 surgeries in 10 days, and was in the hospital for almost a month, and there were times I didn't think I was gonna make it. When I finally got home, I was almost completely bed ridden for 6 months. I lost my job and my health insurance. I applied for, and got, disability and medicare, even though I was not yet old enough for medicare. Shortly thereafter, my husband lost his job because his place of employment went out of business, so he lost his health insurance too. It was a very hard time financially, and still is. Getting sick totally changed everything for me and Jim. We went from being financially secure to having next to nothing. Take the hint--plan ahead. Never assume the good times will last.
